"C'est l'angoisse du temps qui passe, qui nous fait parler du temps qu'il fait" is an amazing quote too. It means something like : It's the fear of time passing, who make you talk about the weather" because in french, time (temps) and weather (temps) are homonym. So basically : it's the fear of "temps" (time) passing, who makes you talk about the "temps" (weather)

Absolutely an all-time Top 10 film for me… Beauty, Empathy, Kindness, Story-telling, acting, cinematography, effects, humor, romance. It has it all. Glad you loved it. Some films that are also in this category: “PLEASANTVILLE” and “STRANGER THAN FICTION”… HAPPY New Year!

The lady with the guitar on the video tape was Sister Rosetta Tharpe. She's an oft hidden part of the history of rock and roll having influenced a whole load of well known names like Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis and Chuck Berry. The video clip of the complete song is on KZbin; it's called "Up Above My Head". There's also a documentary of her life story on here somewhere as well.

One of my all-time favorite movies, my first DVD because I HAD to have it, the soundtrack was on my playlist for years (Yann Tiersen)...lots of fans consider Amelie the consummate INFP personality type and I relate to that. Exactly as you said, we weren't watching actors in a performance, we were given unique peeks into lives of everyone around Amelie, in each's perspective. The film is very insightful and makes us reflect on our humanity and our lives in general. Different from big budget films with roller coaster rides of emotion, this was a boat floating by on calming waters by the events of their daily lives. Ripples in the water were the slight perturbations we got to experience.

US viewer/French audio/English subtitles: Your remark about the music (circa stone skimming from bridge scene) is spot on. Even so, with a little less of or reworking of the adult material, I thoght the US release would have had a much more enthusiastic reception. As it is, I almost feel guilty loving this movie so much.

One of my favorite life-long directors Kristof Kislowski, always used classical music in his films and would work with the same composer. Recently, I decided to look for the music to my favorite of his movies, Bleu and found it on KZbin. I listened to it in the car and at some point, it transitioned into the music from this move. What a funny coincidence.

Oh, I love this movie so much (I acctually love most French movies but this is one of my favourites)! ❤ It's interesting that you watch the French soundtrack. I think american people (english too) don't dub everything like we do in europe, because most of the time they will watch american or british movies. On the other hand i'm french and in my country it's rare not to watch the dub version of movies (i do, because i'm learning english)

I’m American (for context)… I’ve always preferred to watch in the original language and reading subtitles. 99% the dubbed ones annoy me as always something feels a bit off with voices and distracts from the film. Maybe Europe just does dubbing a little better… and/or watching the original in the original language feels right. Cheers!

Thanks for watching this. While I enjoyed Jeunet's earlier films like Delicatessen & City of Lost Children, I found Amelie a bit TOO .....cloying. For my taste it didn't have to try so hard to be quirky & precious. Still, no one but Jean Pierre Jeunet could have made this film. While not my favorite Jeunet film, it does have its moments. Easily one of my favorite pieces of cinema... and that soundtrack. Was in Paris and some street performers were playing it.... the chills (and worth owning the soundtrack). lol my parents had a weird chipmunk vase (Edgar) they didn't want, so just placed it in our house, we returned it back to them, they quietly put it back in our house. After multiple repeats and as a traveler, I started taking it around and emailing holiday pics with Edgar in different locations.... ala the gnome. Pretty sure Edgar Chipmunk still has an email address lol. Alien Resurrection.... just a look at the cast is enough to say how much influence he had.. though you should DEFINITELY watch The City Of Lost Children first. It includes Ron Perlman and Dominque Pinon and Dominique Pinon and Dominique Pinon and.... is definitely NOT a Christmas movie imo lol.

There is a French Rom Com I think you would like called Le Nom des gens (The Names of Love (2010). It is about a Conservative middle-aged, perfectly ordinary (my name is Arthur Martin there are 15207 people in France with that name) government epidemiologist and a very unique (My name is Bahia Benmahmoud. No one else in France has that name) young woman on a mission. Seduce conservative men and fuck them liberally, until they turn into liberals. She turns Arthurs life upside down but then Arthur performs a simple act of kindness for Bahia's father and she ends up having her life turned up side down. I fell for this movie when I saw it, I especially loved the line, "If we can't trust the ducks, that is a problem." (ducks are my favorite animal. And I really don't care that they a fowl).
