I married a beautiful Filipino lady in 1975, and 2 days later my ship left for our home port. I didn't see her for 18 months. I promised to write her every day and I kept that promise. The song faithfully reminds me of this especially the line, " I get the joy of rediscovering you". Great reaction guys. BTW we were married for 43 years, and unfortunately the love of my life passed 4 years ago. She told me if she passed before me to please move on, and I tried to do that, but I can't, because I realize I still love her too much. She is the only love for me.

This song came out when my husband left for Germany after Army basic training back in the early 80's, it was a song we played over and over again. And for those of us that were doing the leaving, it takes us back to the other side of that airport gate. For me it was the ship pulling away from the pier, but the power, the raw emotion Sir Elton invokes through the imagery of the video he chose to accompany this magnificent piece of art ... well that's a common thread that all of the military and our spouses share.

Others you haven't done include "Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting", "Someone Saved My Life Tonight", "Nikita", "The Club at the End of the Street", and "Empty Garden (Hey Hey Johnny)". I’ve been a massive fan of EJ’s since the early days. This song got huge airplay when it was released, but it never really registered with me, and I considered it one of his “light weights”. But I saw him in concert again in the early 90’s, and the soulful way he performed this song made it one of the highlights of the evening. He elevated it higher than most of his more landmark songs. This, and ‘The Show Must Go On’ (a tribute to Freddy Mercury) were the two absolute best.
