Nearly 40 years ago, Elton John worked with one of his musical heroes, Stevie Wonder, on the song “I Guess That’s Why They Call It the Blues,” which featured Wonder on harmonica.

I married a beautiful Filipino lady in 1975, and 2 days later my ship left for our home port. I didn't see her for 18 months. I promised to write her every day and I kept that promise. The song faithfully reminds me of this especially the line, " I get the joy of rediscovering you". Great reaction guys. BTW we were married for 43 years, and unfortunately the love of my life passed 4 years ago. She told me if she passed before me to please move on, and I tried to do that, but I can't, because I realize I still love her too much. She is the only love for me.

This song came out when my husband left for Germany after Army basic training back in the early 80's, it was a song we played over and over again. I was 19 and still remember it like it was yesterday. Even though our marriage didn't survive this song brings me back to that airport watching him leave in his uniform.

And for those of us that were doing the leaving, it takes us back to the other side of that airport gate. For me it was the ship pulling away from the pier, but the power, the raw emotion Sir Elton invokes through the imagery of the video he chose to accompany this magnificent piece of art ... well that's a common thread that all of the military and our spouses share.

One of my all time favorites! This was kind of a comeback hit for Sir Elton. "I'm still standing" is also on this album, which I think you already reacted to. By the way, his great friend Stevie Wonder does the harmonica solo. Please explore his Tumbleweed Connection album. It has those southern elements you like. Where to now St. Peter, Burn Down the Mission, Amoreena, Country Comfort, the whole record is fire.

You just reached double digits with Sir Elton! Congratulations! The great news is, there are SO MANY MORE to go! For your next one (maybe for July 4th??), I recommend "Philadelphia Freedom". Others you haven't done include "Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting", "Someone Saved My Life Tonight", "Nikita", "The Club at the End of the Street", and "Empty Garden (Hey Hey Johnny)". As for the video, it depicts two 1950's-era lovers who are separated when the man has to leave for National Service (which at the time was - I think - mandatory, as it was less than a decade after WWII ended.

I’ve been a massive fan of EJ’s since the early days. This song got huge airplay when it was released, but it never really registered with me, and I considered it one of his “light weights”. But I saw him in concert again in the early 90’s, and the soulful way he performed this song made it one of the highlights of the evening. He elevated it higher than most of his more landmark songs. This, and ‘The Show Must Go On’ (a tribute to Freddy Mercury) were the two absolute best.

This is one of my favorite Elton John songs. Before my parents were engaged/married, my dad had to move states because of work, and he said that this song was constantly playing on the radio that summer. So I guess he has slightly less fond memories of the song than I do.

"Rolling Like thunder..." This was a song my wife sang with her best friend L. They both really sang that "thunder" lyric with gusto! And "laughing like children", they did together. Millie tells me how the two of them were walking a dark country road near Woodstock, arm in arm, singing "Jingle Bells", to keep their courage/spirits up. God rest you, L. A great tune by Elton. Thanks. Great reaction.

This is my all time favorite Elton song and has been since I 1st heard it in the 80s. I’ve gotten to see him twice in concert (once when he was touring with Billy Joel) and I was waiting for him to play it both times and he always waited till close to the end. I love his music, but this one is just amazing to me.

One of his best songs and perhaps his best slow one! I really think you'll love Someone Saved My Life Tonight. Some other suggestions would be Sad Songs (Say So Much), Island Girl, Candle in the Wind, I Don't Wanna Go on with You Like That, Little Jeannie, Made for Me, The Bitch is Back, You've Gotta Love Someone, and I Swear I Heard the Night Talkin'.

On a trip to Guatemala, i was feeling a bit melancholy being away from my family, I happened upon a music store, and there was this Elton John tape cassette for sale, an assortment of hits. In this collection was as a song I had never heard of, "Blue Eyes." Elton goes deep on that one vocally and it became my theme song for the rest of the trip as i thought about my girlfriend back in the states.

I grew up with the music of Elton John & had a lot of his records. He was really big in the 70's-80's. He collaborated with Bernie Taupin since 1967 on more than 30 albums. They were one of the best song writing teams. Bernie wrote the lyrics & Elton supplied the melody. They had so many great hits together such as "Levon", "Honky Cat, "Crocodile Rock", "Daniel", "Bennie & The Jets", "Candle In The Wind", "Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting", Funeral For A Friend/Love Lies Bleeding", "The Bitch Is Back", "Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me" etc.

Fun fact: "Bennie & The Jets" was the song that W. Axl Rose credits for starting his musical career. So, without that song, there would be no Guns N Roses.

Hmm it is weird that no one has mentioned "can you feel the love tonight" and "circle of Life" from the best Disney movie ever Lion king. Those two are amazing songs by Elton John and always brings nostalgia vibes to people born in the 90s or early 2000s :)

I think for a lot of people that followed Elton for years, that Lion King stuff was pretty watered down Elton. Extra poppy. By far my least favorite era of his music but that's what's great about music, it all hits us differently. 😁
