Such Good Prime Rib at Redwood Steakhouse in Downtown Las Vegas

The California Hotel served up my favorite dish of 2023 with the oxtail soup at the Market Street Cafe but this year, I'm trying out their Redwood Steakhouse. I've seen very little on the Redwood Steakhouse and while Fremont Street and downtown Las Vegas have some very well known steakhouses like Oscar's and Barry's Downtown Prime, the Redwood Steakhouse piqued my interest to try. And I'll of course be trying as many dishes as I can because

You definitely got them some more business with this video! Smart of them to bring you extras to try. That banana slab looked decadent! The ✌️crabcakes✌️ looked more like crab hushpuppies. Beautiful selection. I'm a fan of calamari, and those looked great. Just recently has salt and pepper calamari from a Japanese restaurant, it was the best I had had in a very long time. If I could have just one dish I think I would have to go with the sea bass. I love bok choy and miso, this dish just looked so good. It's always a joy to watch your reviews.

Over 20-years ago I use to stay wherever I could get an inexpensive room. California Hotel was one of those places. I used to eat at the Redwood Grill. It was a little different back then. It was darker like one of those old steakhouses. I used to get the Porterhouse, a salad, and a side (I forgot what I usually get), and I got steamed rice. It was around 70 dollars with a glass of wine, and a dessert with coffee finishing the meal. The beef was terrific being a choice cut. Once I also ate at the Pasta Pirate which was next door. They used the same kitchen, and many of the same meals. I had the Filet Mignon medium-rare although it came out quite rare. It was great back then, but now I stay comped at either CP or PH with a Bellagio fountain view. In fact I'm currently looking at the Bellagio and Cosmo while I'm writing this.

I'm all over a caesar salad made at home. I love mine extra saucy with the toasty croutons and a chunk of crusty bread in the opposing hand for the assist... Medium rare prime rib waiting, patiently, in the wings, with the jus and horseradish, and more crusty bread for the assist and the sop... Never forget the well poured heavy red❤🍷

The last time I ate the prime rib there was in April of 1978. The prime rib was $4.95 which is $23.80 in 2024 money. That means the prime rib has almost tripled in price. Being a retired local now and not a visitor I go to the Jerry's original coffee shop for a full prime rib dinner with home made or salad choice of potato vegetables and garlic bread.

A consistently good prime rib is always at Lawry's on Flamingo but many of the steakhouses on the strip have solid prime rib. I particularly thought the prime rib was excellent this night at the Redwood if you are going downtown. I have been to Lotus of Siam though not in many years. Maui Onion is a variety from Maui (Hawaii) and is known for its sweetness. It cannot be grown anywhere else because it is grown in the red volcanic ash on the upper slopes of Mt Haleakala. The soil is very low in sulfur so it does not have the sharp pungent acidic taste and eye tearing when cutting into lesser onions. It is an expensive, usually more than the other prized sweet onions - Vadalia (Washington) and Walla Walla (Georgia) that have similar properties but are grown in far greater quantities and cheaper to transport. Sorry for the onion lesson but I am an onion addict and pride myself with the greatest variety of onions in any one home. I can eat almost any onion like an apple. Was the Prime Rib better than Golden Steer?

I ate at the fancy Oscar’s and Hugo’s Cellar downtown fancy restaurants but I like Sam’s town casino TGIF Restaurant steak 🥩 and lobster 🦞 deal with a drink purchase plus getting free chips and salsa when your a member of their rewards . You should do a review of TGIF and watch the mystic falls Christmas 🎄 show while you’re there . I like your reviews great videos .

VWS: Sorry for my late analysis but I am in Hawai'i enjoying the beautiful people, culture, sand and food but I never miss " Vegas with Shin" lol. To echo other commenters your indepth narratives are next level when describing the taste and composition of the food items. You also do it with class never ever being overly critical. Obviously this place is overpriced ( a tad bit lol ) but the food did look prepared properly with quality ingredients ( Awful crab 🦀 cakes excluded) Anywho another vlog in the books see 👀 Tuesday Peace ✌️ out.
