-1 the other day here in western Missouri. Enjoy your weather. Snow and ice beneath causes a person to be cautious outside. Thankful for longer daylight.

I actually give my horses the Redmond salt/minerals year round. In the summer to help replenish what they sweat out and in the winter to encourage more water consumption.

Colder weather means denser air and more Oxygen. More fuel in every breath. My favorite weather. Good idea about adding salt to their feed in the cold. One might think it unnecessary as they sweat less. But then, I have to watch my hydration in the winter because I tend to drink less. So it works the same for them.

That will be interesting to see Sonita with cows. I try not to be bias based how horses' identifiers, but she seems really intelligent.

Why does she have a kerchief tied to her tail?

That is a tail bag to keep it clean.

I am guilty of not wanting to ride at our property because the horses are barn sour. We can ride them here, but it just isn't much fun. Carol Kuzilik

Your comment on never avoid scary objects. What if a horse is afraid of dogs? Barking or aggressive even being approached by a dog? Dogs behind a fence even? Just wondering. My horse is okay with my dog she goes with us. I have friends that have horses that totally loose it.

Your 2 options are to avoid the scary dogs and leave the problem there, or to teach your horse that when there is a scary dog to listen to you. Which would you rather if you are surprised by a scary dog you are not expecting or not behind a fence. Very real possibility of that happening.
