In April of 2023, fighting broke out between two opposing military factions following the military overthrow of a civilian-led government. The fighting has since escalated, and the civil war has turned into the world’s biggest humanitarian disaster. As many as 150,000 civilians have died, according to the U.S. special envoy. Some 11 million have been forced from their homes, and 25 million, more than half the population, face acute hunger, according to the World Food Program.
But who’s leading the drive to end the conflict? Our recent speaker, Cameron Hudson, suggests the U.S. should do more to leverage its power to promote a resolution. Mr. Hudson is a senior fellow at the Center for Strategic and International Studies and a longtime expert on Sudan. He joined us on October 1st for a presentation on the current crisis and the role of U.S. Leadership.
