In this video I introduce myself and talk about the process leading up to my diagnoses, what led me to pursue such things at my age and how I'm starting to integrate this new information about myself into my daily life and sense of self. It's all very interesting (for me), hope you enjoy it!

I am what British people call a "pensioner" and during my academic years people were baffled by the wide gap between my math ability scores and my verbal ability scores. Reading sites like yours on KZbin I picked up two comments on what people in the USA now call Autism Spectrum Disorder. One psychologist named Jordan B. Peterson said that these inconsistencies turn up in people with high intelligence quotients. A woman now recognized as autistic who is also considered an expert on autism created a career for herself by noticing what animals noticed that humans do not notice. She designs slaughterhouses in a way that allows the animals to move through without falling or stampeding, etc. Her name is Temple Grandin.

Hi Nina, thank you so much for sharing your thoughts and insights. I've got Temple Grandins book on animal behaviour and used that as inspiration for an on-farm fencing project my husband and I are conducting to stop kangaroos ruining our baby trees.

(((((hug))))) I adore you and the way you’re going about sharing this part of your life and journey with all of us. 😊 “Verbose.” 😄 (My husband introduced me to that word during our first phone conversation. ✊😂) Happy. Drawing us a schematic. (I think best in pictures!) Recording your videos out in nature. 🥰 I am 42, diagnosed at 38 with ADHD (among other things), and scheduled for an ASD assessment in July. And I’m a California girl.😎🌻 I first thought I might be Autistic back in Oct/Nov or so, but became SURE in Feb/March after feverishly researching and devouring relatable, validating webinars and personal stories all over KZbin - as well as taking online tests. 🙃 I have recently been self-identifying as an Aspie ADHDer with a PDA profile. Though Asperger’s is no longer recognized within the DSM-5, but the criteria ~quite different from ASD1, in my opinion~ just MAKES SENSE - and if I don’t get the validation via this upcoming assessment, I shall just keep trying. ✊🤪 🤓❤️‍🔥

Thank you, Amanda. You seem very happy with your diagnosis, I am pleased for you. You have made both ASD and ADHD seem very easy and helpful to understand. As Therapist (Retired), I often wondered about some of my clients, but that was not my remit and so I said nothing. Looking back it’s a shame because sometimes their lives seemed so chaotic. One of our grandsons has recently been diagnosed with ADHD which was not such a surprise when it happened. He is very bright, obedient and helpful at home and school, but he cannotkeep still. He is up and down in his seat and when talking to you he walks about. His Mum asked his teacher and she replied that she had just begun to wonder. She said he is not text book distracted, but can be looking out of the window when she talks to the group, she will stop and ask him what she is talking about, and he can tell her almost word for word. He is always well behaved too. In our ignorance we thought ADHD meant bad behaviour! He won’t eat certain foods and his diet is limited. This started after a bout of Scarlet Fever when about 3 years Thank you again Amanda, I have subscribed and I will look forward to your next postXx

Thanks for the kind words and for sharing your reality and reflections. I am such a truth seeker/ picker and digger that I'm still very surprised by what I'm learning about myself. I know some people say they are 'born again' (as in Christians) but I feel like I'm being born again and again and again! Its interesting. I'll be sharing more content soon

@@suddenlyautistic, I’ll look forward to it. I am actually a “Born Again” Cbristian, some 42 years ago. Sadly the title is very missused often. . Xxx
