Beast could have been an experimental film for Vijay if the screenplay and comedy has been written and executed well. The director should never write a script for a specific hero. It will play with their mind and writing in a bad way. Beast would be a learning for Nelson if he would realize it

The only Karattu i have is that Nelson's earlier films itself were average movies at best, which were overhyped! For example, there is no difference btw the Rowdy gumbal in Doctor falling for that silly "hand fight" game with Yogi Babu in Doctor, to say a scene like t terrorist here falling for t lies as Vijay is trying to free himself with the lens...even in Doctor, just a few jokes really landed, most of them were borderline childish & juvenile...i had said these things about that Film on Twitter, when the whole 'cinephiles' group were celebrating it as some sort of MASTERPIECE...i really didn't see Nelson deviate too much from his brand of work in Doctor, except for the extra hero build up scenes to justify the presence of a Mass Hero

Sir I liked the way you structured your 4 Review. Amidst the hype and stardom your review was straightforward highlighting the pitfalls. Keep up the momentum. you have to ask the producer how they charge movie budget is budget 150 crs the actor salary is separate 100+. but you know ar murugadoss was the choice before nelson but because director and producer have issues nelson came in. beast trailer cut was interesting but movie expectation went sky high so some or more did not meet the expectation. I hope Thalapathy 66 vamsi and 67LokiOrSomeone and 68atlee or vetrimaaran goes well.

So honest .. Thank you for a detailed honest review. Your observations were...💯 hahaha..what you said about Halamathi habibo..cute.. And, what you talked about civilians which set the trigger for his character arc.. The aspect of PTSD is so real and glad he brought that out. Of course, with his foundation of dark humour. So, overall he kinda worked out the script neatly. Character writing (all the characters) has always been his strength. Have a feeling he had a deep rooted, subconscious pressure with the whole thalapathy factor that didn't let him work out script involving everyone. Was he chained? The foreground was hijack, his touch has been dark humour but unlike doctor the two didn't sync.

I dont get it .. All of these new directors claim that Vijay never interferes in their scripts .. Also its the first time after NANBAN where Vijay had a SIMPLE INTRO .. plus he carried himself as VEERA throughout the film unlike MASTER where in the second half .. u could see Lokesh trying to bring up the USUAL THALAPATHY !! So if the ACTOR IS SOLID , THE BUDGET IS HIGH .. and the audience is going to take anything that good , Whats stopping THESE NEW DIRECTORS from directing a GOOD FILM ???

I was so disappointed after watching this film. Out of all the ways in which Vijay's stardom could've been used to make an entertaining film, the director chose this one. Clearly, not enough work was put into writing the script. What a waste, this could've been so, so good. Also, would you ever get around reviewing The Batman? he did not used the actor and other supporting character well from his previous movies. he only take 3 months to write the script. character story was not apt. boring old template. but with the old template he should have used what he executed in the previous movies. may be he should have shown talkative vijay, pooja as side kick, yogi babu character should have come from doctor might be interesting. he aimed for action but comedy not much. I think only stuntmaster and cinematographer worked more than director. He should have put more emotion to the character and connect each other with some more aggressive role like he did in doctor where non hero member fun fight with bad guys worked in director should have worked here as well. hmmm I wonder what rajini will do change the director or will it be nelson.... I am badly waiting for vetrimaaran and thalapathy combo. France beast ran well. He is worst than atlee after seeing beast. atlee pulled 80% of vijay can pull of as in package. but nelson gave song more important. screen play have to be more griping and some hostages have to die or get some injury.

Felt the same watching this could have had the stakes atleast for the sake of it but seems the team didn't even bother about it..Nelson's dark comedy should have work with Vijay who actually has/had good sense of humour in his films but this just ends up flat.Disappointing from both Nelson and Vijay whose previous works were Doctor and Master which I enjoyed and liked very much and hoped this would be on those range but we get "Beast"

Beast is not a vijay's movie, it's nelson movie. Only 1 song and no mass scene and there are comedy scenes which used to be in Nelson's movie and also the movie is a one day story. This movie is suitable only for sk and not for vijay.

proper intellectual's review but i think there should be disclaimer of sorts here. The unbelievable action ( which few tamil stars and most telugu stars ) do is not the problem. The fact that it doesn't work is the problem. Mostly its grey for some it won't work for some it will work easily. However if it doesn't work for most of normal audience, then it's a failure.

Not sure if you can add Lokesh in Master to that list. He went for 50% Vijay and 50% himself with that film and considering the screen space afforded to Sethupathi, Vijay's acceptance of a role that involves alcoholism etc. it felt like he achieved it. Beast is definitely one in the wrong direction but you do raise an interesting question overall. There is no space for a mass hero in today's cinema - one where audiences are aware and want more in terms of plot atleast. But how do you get Ajith and Vijay, these demi-gods in the world of tamil cinema to conform to these new norms? Will their fans even accept that? Hard to say, but that's my take atleast

And I think fans ultimately will be the ones who will change the stars' minds. Once it becomes obvious that they won't be okay with films like this just to see their favorite stars on the screen, stars will act in better roles and directors won't have to give up their unique and successful style

If the movie had released its trailer as a black humor and everything else came along as a surprise. May be this movie would be at it's best. When people say this movie isn't the way I expected, this is not how to take a hostage movie etc. Well I don't want to watch a movie where I know this is going to happen , bring me tension etc. I just want to watch how different they can move up that story. The only thing I agree will be Comedy was not upto the Expected level!! Easily out-smartable villains are expected in Nelso’s movie!! Just compare this movie template with Doctor in your mind!! Correct but if in a hostage drama movie, the audience feels relieved that one of the hostages has been killed, how do you build up further tension? Without stakes there is no pay-off right and this movie had none I felt. That's the point Sudhir was conveying if I'm not mistaken. The dark comedy there works to the detriment of the film

@@madhavanr8055 Not at all..!! Actually the main intent of the film was centered around the fact that Omar Farook should not get released.... If you watched the Film Closely, Even Selvaraghavan makes fun of that terrorist, asking the terrorist, "You expect a biggie like Omar Farook to get released just for hijacking this Mall with very less no. of people.. you should have hijacked a Cricket stadium or something" ... Also, it was a setup by Home Minister that he even sent his daughter and Wife to that mall.. So, the dealing between him and the terrorist makes sure that the Hostages won't be affected because of the Terrorist!! Veeraraghavan doesn't fight the Terrorist because of the Hostages.. He fights because , he don't want Omar Farook to get released... Most of the ppl missed the whole tone of the movie.. Maybe they were expecting a mainstream movie instead of a Nelson style movie

Theres lot to not like in beast but please stop bringing in Hollywood movies in to everything fast furious la enna pannalum people will crazy over it yet when a tamil hero does its just troll material. Logic or no logic that fighter jet sequence visually (vfx) was brilliant i am not asking you to praise it the very least we could do is appreciate the effort in it. As a fan this review hurts a lot but theres lot truth in it as well i feel Vijay is stuck in a zone where he wants to tryout new things but couldn't fully let go of the commercial elements this 50/50 stuff doesn't work. I just watched and enjoyed the movie... I felt the movie had everything... Worth watching once... If they have created tension throughout.... easily it would have been compared with payanam ... but loopholes are there definitely... even in rrr it was there.. larger than life moments and unrealistic fights ... If you welcome rrr and kgf definitely there is no point in criticizing beast... with all due respect..one thing I would like to mention is I missed valimai in theatre bcoz of mixed reviews like this..but when I watched it in ott ..it was very entertaining.. I don't understand why Tamil movies esp star valued movies are criticized...
