19:40 this seems like an incorrect deduction, because one of the oranges could very well be 6 and be on the place of the yellow in box 5. If you try it, it quickly breaks though because that arrow would be 612, leaving R4C4 to be a 3 and a 3-8-3 whisper. This means R4C6 and R6C8 cannot be 3's anymore and R6C7 can't be 6 either, so there is no possible option left to sum to 9.

This is the spot that is important and really ramped the difficulty of this puzzle up. The way the arrows that Maggie put into the puzzle took me ages to understand, and when I did I was able to put some finishing touches in and make it all work. The central shape she put together was tough, but I loved it.

Interesting - I reasoned it a bit differently. The 6 and 3-8-3 force r1c4 to be 7, forcing r1r2c3 to be a 12 pair, forcing r4c3 to be at least 4, forcing r4c2 to be no more than 2, breaking the renban.

The reason the puzzle was called Bleeding Edge was because we thought the central part of the grid looked like a Fidget Spinner, with three of the sides in green, and the pink one was the "bleeding edge". It's a bad pun, but that's the only type we know.

52:52 How was 1 knocked out of R3, C9? It still seems the renban can be 1234 as the smaller arrow can then be 4,3,7 when read backwards. This leaves 5 in the center of box 6. I was impressed by the deduction about row 4/6 containing the identical arrows as that part was valid but I see what others are saying about not knowing that they were necessary 126.
@raghardeishi97218 күн бұрын
It's simple. It depends on square directly under it. And you restrict value of that square by finding position of 3. Mark was so disoriented by all these phones and visitors he kinda skipped that part.
@markbleyerveld840718 күн бұрын
But the renban could still be 1234
@raghardeishi97218 күн бұрын
@@markbleyerveld8407 It can't, solving R4 C9 by restricting R3 C8 forces it to be higher than 1.
@AaronSmith-i8y18 күн бұрын
Until 55:00 the 1 has two positions in boxes 3 and 9 forming an x wing in C7, C9, R3 and R9. The naked single 5 Mark gets after adding 9 to row one finally forces 5 onto the renban in C9. I still don't see an answer to the question before that moment though.
@Paolo_De_Leva16 күн бұрын
@@AaronSmith-i8y I agree on the following points: 1) *5* on the renban rules *1* out of it. 2) There is no way to lock *5* on the renban without first spotting the naked single *5* in *row 1,* as shown by Mark @55:00. However, be careful because before 55:00 Mark obtained a lot of information based on his _"lucky logic mistake."_ If he had solved without that mistake, he would not have been able to pencilmark the *4-5* pair in *box 9.* Hence, after spotting the naked single *5* in *row 1,* you cannot use that *4-5* pair to immediately force *5* onto the renban. You need to proceed with sudoku until you manage to do what *@raghardeishi972* cryptically explained above. Namely, you lock *3* in *r1c8,* wich restricts *r3c8* to *r3c8* = either *2* or *4* and, by arrow logic, rules *4* out of *r4c9,* forcing it to be *r4c9 = 5*

I finished in 65:38 minutes. This was a tough puzzle to crack. I had a lot of fun on the middle arrow, then it got harder. I was able to slowly make progress with some clever pencil-marking and was even able to get a couple cells that were always the same number. I was finally able to crack in in column 3 by having a 1 always forced into column 3 of box 1. This gave me enough power to unwind the arrows. That felt super tough to see, but it felt so good to have finally cracked it. Great Puzzle!

Such an interesting puzzle! I read some of the comments about the logic about orange cells in box 5 and they're true. but putting a 6 in R6C4 will break the puzzle. I actually thought about that option when Mark made this deduction (I start on my own and come to the video when I'm stuck). My "yelling at the screen" moment was when Mark started coloring the 12 cells and stopped before he noticed that in R4C4 there can't be a purple cell, pushing it to R4C2, so the beast mode could have started earlier.
@BremSterPuzzles18 күн бұрын
I don’t fault Mark for skipping the 6 elimination in r6c4, I did this in my first test through after Maggie created the central part of the grid; it’s really easy to do. The break in as built is focused around the effect of the 123 triple in b5, and the power it has through the GW lines; which as Mark explained have to be a triple or you have issues with the arrows. If r6c4 is a 6, you end up with the arrow under it being a 12, forcing r4c4 to be a 3, making the GW line it’s on become the 8, and therefore r5c7 becomes one of 67, this means that r6c8 can’t be a 3, and you have a 12 pair in r6c68; which means that r6c7 would have to be a 6; but this was all started with r6c4 being a 6; and two 6s in r6 is a no-no; so that eliminates 6 from r6c4. Now, because you can’t put a 6 in r6c4, that arrow in c4 must have a 3 on it, because if it doesn’t it’s 12 and needs the 6, which we just eliminated. So that removes the 3 from r4c4, which removes the 8 from r3c5 and… stuff starts happening from there with the 123s. This is not an easy spot, this break in from Maggie is positively amazing and it took me ages while we were creating it to understand what she was doing. I hope you all enjoy the puzzle even with this slight mess up; we all do them, but when a camera is pointing at you, everyone gets to see it.
@Paolo_De_Leva17 күн бұрын
I did enjoy this stratospherically clever puzzle and your explanation of the intended break-in made it even more fascinating. Thank you. By the way, people also need to be explained how to rule *1* out of the renban in *column 9,* because Mark did it with incorrect logic. That was discussed in the thread opened by *AaronSmith's* comment.

@renedekker980618 күн бұрын
The way I resolved it: give the 123’s their own colours. After some manipulation, you’ll discover that the two horizontal arrows must be the same composition. After that, due to the way the 3 forces the 8 around, the 3 can only go in r4c6. That forces the horizontal arrows to be both 126.

I wound up getting that the end of the arrow (r4c2) had to be a 123, then with the pink line passing through that cell meant that the highest value for r6c4 was a 5. At that point, we can only put two high digits in row 5 and not column 5.

Isn't it going wrong at around 20:10 ... Mark wonders if he can put in two oranges... and by sudoku he could-ish. Thing is yellow is 4-6 and orange is 6-8. Among oranges and yellows there hides one six. So in each box, row and column one orange must be mixed with yellow or vice-versa.

The “ch” in “chutzpah” is pronounced like /x/, like the Scottish word “loch” /lɔx/. If you don’t feel confident saying it that way, you can pronounce it /h/ like “horse” /hoɹs/, but pronouncing it /t͡ʃ/ like “chum” /t͡ʃʌm/ is so wrong, it’s practically antisemitic.
@minamagdy412618 күн бұрын
(to original commenter. I won't address the other stuff, not because it isn't important but because I wish to address the linguistics more) I didn't know that the "ch" is pronounced in the Greek fashion in these Hebrew loanwprds (many Greek loanwords have ch to represent the letter chi, which is often/always? pronounced /x/). My own native Arabic usually goes for "kh" instead when transliterating the equivalent letter, as does the Coptic that I know (at least for the native letter khori. The Greek-origin chi is more complex). I do agree that "tsh" is inappropriate, but I've always pronounced it as "sh" since I didn't know any better (can't find the IPA symbol, sadly). I wouldn't outright accuse them of antisemitism, as it seems more to stem from naïvete, but I understand your concern, as similar matters irk me greatly.
