This is a fabulous series. I had got totally stuck on hard puzzles and was just about to give it up. And as someone who has played and studied Baroque keyboard (even built a small harpsichord kit), I really appreciate your music as well!

I would like to get the software that you are using in your tutorial. Is there an app for it? Can you insert puzzles on it? Thanks, I enjoy your teaching techniques.

How do you decide which number you’re going to use for your second number and a strong link starting

Can I assume that you must expose all the candidates in the puzzle to use links and chains?
@SudokuSwami5 жыл бұрын
Yes, you must be able to see ALL possible remaining Candidates. Otherwise, you could not differentiate a Strong Link from a Weak Link.

I started at the beginning and you have mentioned "chains and loops" twice without my knowing what you mean by chains and loops. Where should I have learned that. I must have missed it somewhere.
@SudokuSwami3 жыл бұрын
A Chain is made by stringing Candidates together via Strong Links and Weak Links, in such a way that the Links ALTERNATE, Strong-Weak-Strong-Weak-Strong, etc. This is called an "Alternate Inference Chain," or AIC. A Loop is simply a Chain that loops back to where it starts. Chains and Loops, when constructed correctly, can help you make logical conclusions which will help you solve puzzles. Watch the Lessons in chronological order, and it will all become clear.

With a strong and weak links, you go and pick like three numbers how do you know what numbers you wanna pick when you pick candidates sometimes it seems like you pick three different numbers for candidates and I don’t know where you pull the numbers from. I know it’s me not you help.

on your example of the nines.. the nine in block six can see both the nines in block four and block nine i call this the crab. nine in block four is the body and the two other nines are the claws. therefore if the body is true the claws are false and if the body is false both claws are true

I am making notes... Video 3 and 3A summarizing: STRONG LINK: If A is false then B is true WEAK LINK: If A is true then B is false To make chains and loops, you alternate between strong and weak links. To make a chain, you have to START and END with a STONG link. With a loop, you don’t have to start with a strong link becouse a loop doesn’t have a beginning or an end. Correct? Before I’m going to watch video 4, I’m going to try to understand the logic regarding to chains and loops when I alternate between strong and weak links. I’m afraid my curiosity will force me to watch the video before I find out the awnser 😅

Yes, you are correct about everything you said, except for one thing. It is true that AICs Types I & II must both begin and end with a Strong Link. This insures that at least ONE of the endpoints must be True, and knowing this allows you to make Candidate eliminations. But.....ALL Chains do not have to start with a Strong Link. It depends on what you are trying to prove. In certain circumstances, you may want to start with a Weak Link, or a Weak Inference. You will find this to be the case in many advanced techniques. But REGARDLESS, all AIC's must alternate between Strong and Weak. This is the only way you can make any deductions. And further, in a perfect Continuous Loop, there will be an equal number of Strong and Weak Links, and it won't matter where you begin, as you noted. But in a Discontinuous Loop, there are exceptions to this Rule. Please watch Videos #38 thru #44 to understand how Loops work. Good luck.
