In the late 18th century, if you were very wealthy, you may have enjoyed one live performance of this remarkable piece. Thanks to KZbin, we enjoy a most superbly performed rendition. Free, and anytime we chose. What a day and time we live in, and most often take for granted.

Yes it is hard to imagine nowadays that this music was only for a few, the wealthiest. Thank you for your comment!

Very well said!!! A great many people who see the pictures of the inside of the concert halls or who saw the movie Amadeus or other things Don't get that detail of History. In modern America in particular we don't realize just how often we have leisure time compared to even two generations ago This is what is at risk with changes to our society by some among the top 10% who want to reinstate the past, who regard the existence of a middle-class with wealth and leisure as a threat to their power and controlling influence. Not two generations ago 90% of the population could never have stopped working long enough to go enjoy something like this or as is stated much less be able to afford to go to it. This is the world we risk returning to - 90% of people working 2-3 jobs every waking minute of their lives just to put food in their mouths with no lifetime forward progress towards stability at all and literally just surviving the next day, while the wealthy 10% live their lives as they want. That was the way humans lived for 10,000 - 12-000 years. Only in the last hundred years, most espcially after WWII, did that significantly change for the vast percentage of what we now call the middle class. We risk all of that going away if those among the mega wealthy get to gain power back to where they were in the 1890s back to the dawn of civilization any dominate the bottom 90% again. Many of them claim that they are best suited to make all the decisions and deserve all of the wealth. The existence of the middle class in America and Europe and growing across the rest of the continents is not a guaranteed thing and guaranteed to exist for all time. That is success in the last 75 years that can easily be turned back if the wrong kinds of people gain too much influence and Power

Excellent performance. I particularly enjoyed the obvious enthusiasm of the clarinetist and the bassoonist.

I can see a parallel occupation as a jazz saxophonist for the bassoon soloist, Christoph. He's vibin'.

Raise your hands if you think of this work when you hear about Mozart's sinfonia concertante ! 🖐I don't care much about the debates around its authenticity (Well, if you ask me, I'm a bit concerned about the orchestral parts) And congrats to everyone, this is truly one of the best version I've heard so far !

My hands are full right now but I generally agreed with your comments. Debates are for people who enjoy argument. I enjoy music, in its many varied forms. (In case no one noticed, I was making an argument here.)

I know that there is scholarly argument about Mozart's connection with what we hear here. But could anybody but Mozart have written that fabulous, long second subject in the first movement?
