She has also been extremely nasty about sending asylum seekers to Rwanda. In fairness to her, though, she was dead nuts against that ludicrous smoking ban. I applaud her fort that. Even though I am no longer a smoker, I am also against a generational smoking ban. Governments have no right to involve themselves in people's lifestyle choices. Because once they start doing that, there'll be no end of government interference in our lives. This is one reason why I am wary of Starmer and Wes Streeting. If they resurrect that crappy idea, I shall be against them, too. I have an aversion to governments interfering in people's lifestyle choices. I am also allergic to things being banned. My life, my body, my choice.

I have to agree with Suella in that for some, homelessness is a choice, or is the result of a string of bad choices, but mostly, it's mh issues, from what I've seen, fuelled by drug use. Estimates for grooming gang v1ct1ms ranges from half a million to a million, but because the perps are nonwhite, it's been allowed to continue. Shocking.

I do have a problem with the concept of people considering homelessness as a lifestyle choice, however. Why would anyone "choose" to be homeless? Especially in the depths of winter! I would say that the homeless have no choice other than to become homeless because of a bad hand they have been dealt. That could happen to anyone. I take the view, 'there but for the grace of God go I'. Call me a softy if you like, but that is how I feel about it. Such unfortunate people need help to get back on their feet again, not criticism or condemnation.

Technically, she didn't as Fareham & Waterlooville is a 'new' constituency and things there are quite "interesting". Braverman obtained 6000 votes more than Labour, with LibDem and Reform Ltd. 3rd and 4th, each with a shade over 9000 votes, effectively cancelling out one another's support. Not certain of the local demographic, nor any specific issues in South Hampshire, but this seat looks to be no marginal.

On the freedom vs censorship debate. The important point is not that someone should always have to do good in their free expression, just that they should not be allowed to suppress another's freedom with their words or actions. It is as simple as that. Freedom should extend to your personal choices and decision. No one should have freedom to choose for other people and deny them that fundamental free choice in their lives. Justifying Braverman's hate speech as "her free choice" uses the same rhetoric as justifying murder or r*pe. None of these behaviours are freedoms we need to protect because they actively suppress other people's free choices.

Professor Wilson, there is an excellent little-known podcast called the Cult Vault where the host interviews an academic who deals with/works with people leaving high-control groups. I can't remember the woman's name off-hand but she has helped people who have escaped the same "branch" of Buddhism that Suella Braverman is a member of (Triratna Buddhist Community). I thought that was interesting and isn't a great sign that we have someone like this at the forefront of politics who is not only just an awful, inhumane person but is also a member of a cult-group.

I love that beginning about "some cartoon I did for some mugs." There are mugs everywhere. That reminds me of a saying by Sir Wiiliam Hill of the famous bookmaking business where he said "There is a mug born every minute - thank God!" That was most probably based on the original saying by P.T. Barnum who said "There's a sucker born every minute."

The cartoon of Braverman is not true to life. In reality the two Dalmatian puppies would be skewered under the legs of the seat, and cowering in terror...not grinning happily. The sobriquet 'Cruella' suits this odious woman to a T.
