The problem is, these people at the top of government believe they are untouchable. Arrests and prosecutions need to be made, so they realise this is untrue. At the end of the day they need to be reminded they are civil servants.

"How problematic is it" what? That a minister is willfully breaking the law? Pretty problematic i would say. The way this is being discussed like its all a game shows how most of the media are as out of touch as the mps.

A lot of these ‘laws’ were drafted before all this flood of economic migrants took place. It is not a ‘law’ like a criminal law, but something that was passed in parliament to deal with a former situation, but it is now getting out of hand due to the sheer numbers of migrants crossing the channel aided by criminals!

You mean the asylum seekers that have passed through several countries to get to Britain specifically? They are economic migrants and it is not the UK'S responsibility to provide for them. Once safety is reached they cease to be asylum seekers......having found asylum......benefits? That's another story.

It seems obvious Sunak kept her in so he could repay her supporting him but then embarrass her and have cause to sack her so the right of the party couldn’t complain. Similar to how Starmer did with Rebecca Long Bailey to purge the left of the party from Labour.

The Tory government, under whom these problems are getting worse incidentally, are spending billions each year instead of just processing claims like normal countries. Even if you're fine with billions spent because the Tory governments can't get their job done you shouldn't be fine with the current cost of living crisis which is being made worse by a lack of skilled workers, many of whom are currently being paid by the government not to work rather than working and paying taxes. But since it's currently fashionable to say horrible things why care about any of that when lies and fear mongering are the best bet the Tories have at retaining seats?

I've been saying it's nothing more than a (very expensive) distraction ever since the Rwandan deportation scheme was announced. Ignoring the cost and the obvious cynical attempt to appeal to the GBeebies crowd, I'm getting increasingly concerned about the constant attacks on people's human rights and freedoms in this country.

@cupguin
@cupguin 2 жыл бұрын
@@yt.personal.identification from the first result off Google the first paragraph: Tens of thousands of asylum claimants are staying in approximately 200 hotels, alongside an unknown number in hostels. With asylum-related hotel provision rising amidst a mounting case backlog and record dinghy crossings, the cost of such hotel accommodation to taxpayers is nearly £1.3 billion per year - over a billion more than the forecast of up to £70 million that was issued by the government in March 2021. The result is that private sector providers are now being handed ever-ballooning amounts of taxpayer money - over and above even their substantial 2019 contracted amounts - to place asylum seekers into hotels, at an estimated cost of nearly £4,300 per asylum seeker per month. That is 1.5 times the average monthly pay for an NHS nurse (£2,782). That's the cost. It's growing as the backlog of unprocessed claims grows. While you're waiting as a claimant you can't work legally. Do you honestly not understand how this system works?

Dear Prime Minister, It is with the greatest regret that I am choosing to tender my resignation. Earlier today, I sent an official document from my personal email to a trusted parliamentary colleague as part of policy engagement, and with the aim of garnering support for government policy on migration. This constitutes a technical infringement of the rules. As you know, the document was a draft Written Ministerial Statement about migration, due for publication imminently. Much of it had already been briefed to MPs. Nevertheless it is right for me to go. As soon as I realised my mistake, I rapidly reported this on official channels, and informed the Cabinet Secretary. As Home Secretary I hold myself to the highest standards and my resignation is the right thing to do. The business of government relies upon people accepting responsibility for their mistakes. Pretending we haven't made mistakes, carrying on as if everyone can't see that we have made them, and hoping that things will magically come right is not serious polities. I have made a mistake; I accept responsibility: I resign. It is obvious to every one that we are going through a tumultuous time. I have concerns about the direction of this government. Not only have we broken key pledges that were promised to our voters, but I have had serious concerns about this Government's commitment to honouring manifesto commitments, such as reducing overall migration numbers and stopping illegal migration, particularly the dangerous small boats crossings. It has been a great honour to serve at the Home Office. In even the brief time that I have been here, it has been very clear that there is much to do, in terms of delivering on the priorities of the British people. They deserve policing they can respect, an immigration policy they want and voted for in such unambiguous numbers at the last election, and laws which serve the public good, and not the interests of selfish protesters. I am very grateful to all of my officials, special advisers and ministerial team for all of their help during my time as Home Secretary. I especially would like to pay tribute to the heroic policemen and women and all those who work at Border Force and in our security services. To oversee Operation Bridges - the largest policing operation in a generation - was a great honour and I am grateful to have had the opportunity to serve. I wish my successor good luck. Yours sincerely, Rt Hon Suella Braverman KC MP

We all make mistakes don’t we. The chaos of the last few months has, I am sure, addled the brains of quite a few in government and Parliament. What we want now is stability and an end to all this merry-go-round in government. The Opposition of course love to stir it all up in the hope of bringing the government down so that they can get into power and get their snouts in the trough! Their friends in the media just love it all too, and nit pick and search for any and all means to criticise and embarrass ministers or the government! There is no such thing as ‘illegally detained’ asylum seekers. They are ‘illegally’ here! A lot of these people are criminals who have come here to establish crime gangs and others mainly are economic migrants. They are not ‘asylum seekers’ as they have come from France, a perfectly free and safe country! Firstly, they are not "illegally here". Under the UN Convention on Refugees, to which we're a founding signatory, refugees can claim asylum in any country of choice, regardless of countries transited en route. Secondly, according to the Home Office, only a small proportion may be economic migrants. 72% of asylum claims are allowed at first application, and of those who then appeal, half are then allowed. So, at best 20% may be economic migrants. People expect road, hospitals, school and houses... those things wont work if we have unlimited migration into the UK... and when that happens the political situation will swing as mid Britain get hacked off with it... you will see extreme right wing parties coming to power.. there has already been a shift in that direction in Italy because of their own problem with uncontrolled migration.... if migration carries on it will not "stick it to the far right" ; it will however empower them and recharge them... which is actually what they want..... power.
