One of the best flintlock hunting videos on KZbin. Congratulations on a fine production and a successful hunt. I only wish I could live in Pennsylvanian. In this short video you saw more deer in the wild than I see in two years. By the time our black powder season opens all the deer go nocturnal.
@SufferingOutdoors3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your kind words Bob. We have found if you can find a food source it draws deer from all over. This can be a blessing and a curse. If you can't find the food source you don't see any deer. If you find the food sources you find a lot of deer.

That is one of the best videos I’ve seen in awhile. I got a Lyman .50 Deerstalker for Xmas and went to the range like 10 times to get used to flintlocks. Got out twice to hunt. Learned the hard way that hunting from elevated means your powder will run off if your rifle is positioned vertically. Had one doe walk by and my shot didn’t go off. After fixing that I got another opportunity and missed. Was hunting from a saddle and was completely free hand positioned for that shot an And missed. Came away anyway hooked on flintlocks!!! Guys at Lancaster archery told me they are fun and that’s no joke. I wish more people would use them. Part of a great tradition.

hey does flintlock hunting lead to more bad shots, so when eating causes bad taste due to stressed meat. Am a hunter, but never done deer and wondered how much that matters?
@SufferingOutdoors4 жыл бұрын
Good question, I would say it depends. It is definitely a more difficult weapon to use. I think it depends on the shooter. We as hunters need to know our effective range and not push it if the animal is out of range. Or if we have a low probability shot. The deer I killed with the flintlock expired quickly. If you hit them in the lungs or heart they will be done quick.
@timberwolf274 жыл бұрын

I’m just above the pa line. And love your late season. Our idiots in Albany decided only NYShitty people deserved a late hunt not the rest of us I’m wondering why the PGC still insists on making you use the least accurate and effective firearm available. The amount of deer wounded and lost is significant
@SufferingOutdoors4 жыл бұрын
Sorry to hear you lost your late season. I like the challenge of a flintlock and feel if you know your limits you can eliminate wounding deer. I treat my flintlock like a bow and set up close to where I think deer will travel and pass if I don’t have a good shot.
@blaws66844 жыл бұрын
@@SufferingOutdoors you’re ethical. It’s evident by your actions on video. I too enjoy the challenge of primitives and like you try to do the best I can with them. But there are many who aren’t as concerned. To them the hunt is just something to do, not part of their life. They just poke and hope. At least with a cap rifle their results will improve.
