Ballet Dancer it’s important for the dancer to know how to sew elastics and ribbons on their own shoes because mama can’t always be there! Also, if my daughter knows how to sew her new shoes, she will know how to fix them.

Ballet Dancer I have no problem with that - I’ve sewn more than one pair of pointe shoes for my daughter. And I show her what I’m doing when I see them. She wears Bloch Balance European, and those are nearly impossible to sew on the sewing machine, so I wanted to make sure she knows how to sew the elastics and ribbons securely. I have noticed that a lot of girls at her studio either pay someone else to sew their shoes, or have another mom (sometimes me) sew them, and they have no clue how to do it themselves. I think it’s great you paid attention to how your shoes were sewn so that you know how to do it if you need to, and that was the point of my comment. I’m sorry if I offended you!

Lmao so in Russia my grandma went to ballet school and on her first day when she was 7 - 8 she used pointe shoes I guess Russia has really high standards

In Soviet Russia, the standards dance around you. As a person with Russian music teachers, it's pretty demanding. They expect the best and their teaching style isn't right for everyone.

The sad thing is most kids who start pointe should be around 11-13 when the foot has matured enough to have the muscle and bone support and in places like Russia and China they start kids way to early which damages their feet.

Had a Russian music teacher in 3rd grade. She used to show us videos of our performances and tell us how bad we did lmao! She also used to say “in Russia, nobody goes in, and nobody goes out!”

Loved the video! I wish I could have some Suffolks :) I'm definitely going to try that way of sewing the elastics, my shoe's hallways slipping down my heel 😂 Could you please show us a way to sew to reduce fabric on the heel? I have so minute heels that it's just a ball of fabric there, and though this sewing technique is pretty and makes your feet look great it doesn't do anything for me.

Hi kathy, I have seen multiple videos were ballet dancers slice off the edges off of their pointe shoes with a straightedge knife. I am guessing this is to make the pointe shoes quieter???? I don't really know lol. Thanks for all your vids! Really happy that your going back into company dancing

Nicolis Inglehart I think it’s to make the bottom of the sole smoother for when you’re on Demi pointe and rolling from Demi pointe to en pointe... I can’t speak from experience though because I’m not en pointe yet I just watch a lot of ballet videos

suffolk is great quality and i love mine but i only wear them for class and not during performances because i think that the color is just a little but to pink to me
