I just found my hair inspiration. I went to a new salon and wanted a trim but instead I turned around to see over 6 inches of my hair that took forever to grow out....gone. I'm trying to embrace it. I saw you posted, saw the thumbnail, and said "yes, this style!!! We are both fair skinned with brown hair and blue eyes. I've always loved your makeup (and your videos), and now I have my hair inspiration too!!!! Love love love your hair in this video!

When I went on pointe this was in the late 80s. I went to a set store and I had to wear a specific brand. In the appointment, I tried on several sizes. As far as being asked questions not to many. I dance semi professional. ❤ your videos and 💇‍♀️

My shoes felt like a vice around the width of toes. Even though I went to a dance supply store and got fitted in person by someone who is experienced. I definitely need to get fitted again.

Yes- it should feel snug but not like a vice grip. You want your foot to be held but not so much that you can’t move your toes!

Haha second pointe class for my class we were attempting pirouettes. Higher levels didn’t even get a day at barre. Our studio was intense with that but we all turned out okay. We’d do barre on pointe sometimes which was good.

I have suspected for months now that I should size down in my current brand of pointe shoes (only a half a size down) but after I recently bought two pairs of street shoes this month (which I rarely do) and was shocked that they were an entire size and a half smaller than my typical size I wear. They were different brands and a few weeks between one another in terms of purchasing. I'm also a "shrinker" but I didn't think it could be a permanent thing... Not that I care really lol.

I’ve been en pointe for three years.. my teacher keeps putting me in the center and then taking me out of the center (partially because the other girls I’m working with are not yet strong) and I think part of it is because she wants to do quarter pirouettes in the center and I just don’t have the confidence for that yet. I keep thinking it would be helpful to do like ballonnés to really get that single foot lowering without having to rise to pointe and find my balance en pointe right off the bat. Are there other exercises like this that I could be asking to work on?

@@kathryn_morgan It was a shot in the dark. I feel better now. I’ve been dancing since 1981. I got my first pointe shoes in 1987. I’ve been dancing on and off since 1991 and darning was definitely not a thing back then (at least to my knowledge). I’ve watched so many videos on it and I can’t seem to get the knack of it! 😂😂😂 🩰🩰🩷🩷

I'm just curious as a teacher how can you tell when a students pointe shoe is dead for them? Loved the video.
@kathryn_morgan
@kathryn_morgan 2 ай бұрын
Several ways- the way the shoe is fitting, how they are working (if suddenly things are looking weird or they are struggling). And just watching the shape of their feet.

That's exactly what I do with my pointe shoe ribbons when sewing them in! That's also how I was taught to tie my shoes. I do prefer crisscross elastics, but find they need to be pretty high up & fairly tight. My first pair died by the tips going soft, like squish squish soft. 😂 I now darn the tips & have also started glueing suede tips on them because wooden floors are slippery!

@@kathryn_morgan Hi! No kidding! The only two times I have ever fallen off pointe and actually gone splat! on the floor was because the tip of my shoe slid during pique turns on a slippery wooden floor. We aren't allowed to use rosin. Suede tips are awesome!

Hey Kathryn, I realise this above comment could be seen as being inappropriate, British humour is not appreciated by everyone. Sorry if it was over familiar. I really love you videos and have learned so much, your so great at explaining things in an easy to understand way. I will keep my silly jokes to myself in future. 🙏

How do I customize the heel? my right heel gets tight after I'm warmed up
@kathryn_morgan
@kathryn_morgan 2 ай бұрын
There’s a couple things you can do. Check your drawstring- if that’s too tight, it can dig in. I do have a hack for cutting the heel lining (I can do a quick short about it). Also make sure your shoe is just not too tight in general. I will say- all Blochs have tighter heels. So if you wear Bloch, that’s often common!

I kill my shoes very quickly, like 6-8 hours for traditional shoes. When they're dead it takes all my effort just to remain on top of my box. It makes me wonder if I'm relying too much on the shoe for support and not the strength of my feet. How do you know you're pulling up out of them?
@kathryn_morgan
@kathryn_morgan 2 ай бұрын
Have you tried gluing the box before you wear them? That could help them last longer. Many dancers love softer shoes, so it’s a preference. But you want to be lifted in the ankles- make sure you aren’t feeling jammed or too much pressure in the ankle joints. This is hard to answer without seeing them specifically!

Let's say you were on pointe but took years off because of injury. The teacher decides when to return to pointe but I wish you had retraining barre classes for strength after injury, such as hips and lower spine. Because of this my legs do not hold high anymore and left side is weaker than right. I look at my pointe shoes and weep. Meanwhile in class there are sixty and seventy something year old women dancing en pointe like nothing.....
