I'm pretty sure that if I saw him live I would cry from the pure beauty of this song and any other for that matter...

He's got a great voice, a great style, and I just really love this kind of music. I became a fan the very first time I heard this song on the DVD -I mean I had to have this soundtrack. I ewnjoyed the movie, too, btw. This live version is even more sincere than the CD track. Love it.

I love this sooong soooo muuucchhhh. Its one of my favorites. I actually tried to make my own cover of it, and just put it on my site.... I don't even know if I want to keep it up though, It doesn't do Sufjan's beautiful music justice. I think I've dreamt of Sufjan in at least half of my dreams in the past year.

I hate when people comment on the 'dislikes' to a video, but seriously... How could ANYONE dislike this video. It's so soothing, and... PERFECT! Gah, Soofyan, get in my pants.

Gorgeous version of this song... I think it suits the lyrics better to be calm and reflective like this. Such a humble song... I love his music because it can make me feel somehow clean.

I've always thought this was just great songwriting. I heard this song the first time when I was flying back from Europe to the States in July 2006 after a little vacation and it immediately caught my attention... but of course, that was the 'official' release version, which has all sorts of instrumentation and everything. I like this simpler version, too.

The inspiration for this song was actually not spurred by an experience of Sufjan himself, but of a dear, close family member of his named Robert. Robert suffers from a rare form of end stage renal disease, and was taken across the country by several of his friends to go out with a bang. References to Robert can be found in several other songs. RIP Robby

Do you mean the greatest singer/songwriter comment? I've been a Sufjan Fan for years
@tedhair1116 жыл бұрын
It's a hugely powerful song; whatever religious / ethnic background you come from. Different people can draw different perceptions from the deliberately ambiguous lyrics. That is what makes it so good; everyone who listens to it can relate to it (:

Notice you never see comments like "oh woot this guy is an atheist!", yet for some reason people also feel the need to bring up if someone is a "christian", let the song mean what it does to you, and enjoy this marvelous musician.

There seemed to be a lot of lyrics and musical changes when I saw him live. I don't blame the band for having sheet music - it's not your avaerage verse, chorus, verse 3 chord set! I was blown away!

It's about identical to the version that he put on the "Avalanches" album. There's an acoustic version of the song there, and it's a lot like this. I learned this song on guitar, very easy and fun to sing. I think that his voice makes the song more than the lyrics.
