Worth noting that this album was released after the passing of his partner, and Sufjan announced he’d been hospitalized unable to walk. Makes the lyrics hit a bit harder

Yeah 😔 for some reason I processed that in the intro track, and then I assumed the rest was about someone else or something idk. Now I definitely feel the lyrics in a different light, like “So here we stand in the dark My eyes travelling to the spot Where you'd thrown yourself Over the rocks” creates a whole new lonely sort of image. I appreciate the insight and thanks for watching ❤️

Check out his album Carrie & Lowell an album about his mother's death and loved by critics and fans alike. 4th of July, on the album is one of his best songs. For a more bonkers/rocking take on his music, try The Age of Adz. This album takes about 3 listens for it to really kick in. It's brilliant.

Thanks for the insight! Age of Adz is calling my name tbh, that’ll be the next one. Or Illinois :o

Angelo de Augustine is signed to sufjan's label (Asthamtic Kitty) so yeah I think sufjan is a heavy influence on Angelo, esp since Su is a veteran in the folk Genre etc.

I love your reactions but some constructive criticism, a read of the 'About' on Genius would have told you the context in which the album was released, and in my opinion, it is necessary to know this when going into the album. Having said that, I know not everyone wants context and they'd rather listen and make their own mind up but I personally think it's critical to know going in to the album. Thank you again for another amazing reaction (Sufjan is GOAT btw so more Sufjan please!

Thank you so much for the insight ❤️ I do fall into that category of not wanting context usually. I kind of got to listen to this album in 2 different contexts, one which was like an ex that he’s separated from; but now it definitely hits harder with the information in hindsight. Beautiful album, and the potential different contexts add more to lyrics imo. Someone could probably relate a lot to the lyrics after a break-up for example. Thank you so much for watching and commenting :) I appreciate it. I’ll be checking out some more of his work for sure!

For some reason I expected a colourful pop album, mostly because of the covert art I think
