The 3 days before Ascension Day are called Rogation Days in Western Christianity which comes from the Latin verb rogare, meaning "to ask", which reflects the beseeching of God for the appeasement of his anger and for protection from calamities. Very fitting.

Can we talk about how Ativan beautifully this represents severe symptoms of anxiety? That transition from 4:07 with utter noise and chaos (with the heart beat throbbing painfully underneath) into 5:10, when the violin kicks in (representing the person taking Ativan), the noise dies away, as does the heart beat, and the song floats in cooling relief. My own heart throbbed for those who suffer from severe anxiety and similar cases. A beautiful and painfully real summary.

Goodbye to all that is my fav track on the album. The music is just joyous. The vocals. The backing vocals. Top down. Cruising the universe on the way to God. It makes me so so happy. I'm new to the Sufjan catalog. I have only heard Illinois and this one so far. I'm working through slowly enough to get a solid feel and really savor each one. May I say? The Ascension has eclipsed Illinois for me. The spiritual themes and the futuristic sounds paired together are just perfection. He's evoking church organy melodies with rave beats and it works. The wrestling of the sacred and the profane. The pleading of Gilgamesh. The wisdom of the Ascension. The panic of Ativan. This is all about the human experience and I'm so in love with it. So anyway Sufjan your music has stirred me so much. I always loved music and I always loved God but my passion for both are new since hearing your stuff. Thank you.

My comments on this album are inconsequential, but here I have the ability to express them. The statements left here now are only for my own amusement. This is merely how these tracks left me and the urge to take note of this achievement warrants the effort to do so, at least I think it does. The reference to my experience as being an "achievement" speaks towards my willingness to listen. If I confide in music for some sort of extra meaning to the understanding of my existence, then so be it, but who can blame me? What other art form can take you on such an introverted joyride while trying to extrovert itself to the point of seeming to be entertainment? This album does this, and Sufjan Stevens does this every time he puts something out. I have always felt that with all of his music there is the invitation to bring in a hefty variety of fans with many not knowing why. I can not cast down the ignorance within his fan base because their seems to be a deliberate intent for the particular appeal his music offers. For me, there is an obvious balance of what the current times may consider to be "Pop" mixed with lyrical contextualism that contradicts the algorithm most record labels adhere to. Some may find it maddening to realize that not only basic messages can be catchy. Fans of this artist know to look past this capitalist mirage to arrive in a place music was meant to put you in. The wonderment, curiosity of contradicting constants, and overall joy in music is alive and well within this album and it is not my opinion that I wish to express here, instead I offer my gratitude.

Sufjan, this album has been my go to everytime I wish to hear something pure, something outside of the norm, I truly commend you for making us a piece such as this, I regret to say that I havent even listened to the entire album, BUT everytime I listen to this album I begin it from the start. Thank you for being a true rockstar to our generation, you inspire me to be a better man, and I think that means more then any amount of views or money you would make off of a mainstream album, You're a Legend 💪😎👍
