all these people saying this is stupid and that "they dont have time for this" do not understand this project. its art and it helps someone better learn the art of mold making and casting, this is a very valuable tool to know and can be applied in many other fields. i love the idea of learning not only to make sugar glasses but learning how to make the molds them self.

I thought most of this video was so much work, but it turns out most of the work is making the mould! Can you use it multiple times? Do you have to clean it after to make sure the other glassware stays perfect? How come it has to be stored airtight? Great work, by the way! you really put a lot of effort into this!
@CoolKoon9 жыл бұрын
QueenofPancakes5260 Of course that most of the work is making the mold! What'd you expect? Yes, you can use the mold multiple times, it'll take quite some wear and tear before it falls apart. If the mold would sit somewhere for a long time then I'd certainly give it a light rinsing (and perhaps wash it with soap too), but if not, then I don't see a point in washing it on a constant basis. The final products are made from sugar, so if you wouldn't store it in an airtight container, insects (all sorts of bugs, especially ants) would find it in no time.
@Andrew.Gooding9 жыл бұрын

I find amusing the brand names used for common stuff. "Tube-it" and "safe-d-clay" really? I suspect that's so these supplies can be sold at a ridiculous price. Surprised no registration pins in the mold. You had some roughness that would help, but seems like something someone new might mess up. Neat result, though.
@thedemonreupblican58039 жыл бұрын
Pete Brown tbh i would imagine you could use some bye this stuff at a hard ware store for a pretty cheap price lol and also why would you need seperate kits for seperate glasses come on you use the same stuff all we need to do is use a different glass in the cut out and molding proccess :P
@mjSnap9 жыл бұрын
Pete Brown That's a bit unfair. Those are known brand names for a reason. They WORK for the intended purpose, and leave no toxic residue, which is important since these things will contain food and can be eaten themselves. If you buy a fly-by-night company's version of Safe D Clay, you can't be guaranteed the end product will be safe to consume. There's more to brand names than simply a higher price, especially in the crafting industry. There's a level of trust for the known brand names. You can't just use any clay or other materials for this.
@mjSnap9 жыл бұрын
Camrin Cleavenger You could kill someone if you try to make this mold with supplies from a hardware store. My god, don't be stupid. Everything used has to be FOOD SAFE.
@Psychlist19729 жыл бұрын
Ultimist It's quite easy to find food-safe clay, resin, and silicon molding materials. The rest (the "Tube-it" cardboard tube, for example) don't need to be food-safe. "Fly by night company's version" is a wonderful scare tactic. If the stuff is labeled food-safe and sold in the US, it's food-safe. Don't try to make people think it's just small rip-off companies trying to sell knock-offs of Safe-d-Clay when Safe-D-Clay is almost certainly someone else's product, repackaged. I suppose you pay for convenience, but I still find the brand names pretty silly.
@Psychlist19729 жыл бұрын
Ultimist "Everything used has to be FOOD SAFE." All Polymer clay sold in the US is non-toxic, so is most non-hardening sculpting clay. Non-hardening clay simply can't be food safe. It doesn't harden into something that can be used to store food, survive the dishwasher, etc. In any case, you don't need "food-safe" (which has a specific meaning in the US), you just need non-toxic. Food-safe would be required if you were storing or serving food in it, washing it, etc. In this case, the clay is part of the molding process and removed prior to you pouring in the sugar. Any residual clay, if non-toxic, is a non-issue. I highly doubt the clay here has been tested to be truly labeled food-safe. Can it be run through a high-temp dishwasher multiple times? Can it hold up to bleach? Clay just isn't made to be used that way. You can find non-toxic non-hardening synthetic clay anywhere you find mold-making materials.

Wow so very complicated. Couldn't I just order a mold off of Amazon or something, or make a mold out of clay?
@kingdjay139 жыл бұрын
I don't think the point is for it to be simple, it's to have a copy of your own wine glasses and the sense of accomplishment knowing you made it from scratch. Otherwise you should just try and buy some edible glassware.
@CoolKoon9 жыл бұрын
MuffinzGoneWild You certainly could. You could even purchase molding silicone on your own. A single glass mold kit (according to the website linked above) costs $87. If you'd purchase silicone mold making rubber on your own, it'd probably cost about half of that (possibly including some two-component silicone putty for imitating the blue center piece too) and you could use the leftover rubber for making additional molds of possibly different glasses. In this case you'd need to figure out everything on your own: no instructions, no templates, no pre-measured quantities. Or you can also purchase a ready-made mold at eBay for ~$108 plus shipping (www.ebay.com/itm/3D-WINE-GLASS-TWO-PIECE-SILICONE-MOULD-FOR-CAKE-TOPPERS-CHOCOLATE-CLAY-ETC-/191586527984?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item2c9b726af0). So it's entirely up to you which option do you choose.

Rotcod I'm pretty sure he didn't get that from making sugar glass molds and almost certainly didn't do that on purpose either.

So? He's a craftsman. Craftsman work with their hands and that makes injuries and accidents more likely than people who have desk jobs or whatever.

so the sugar in the wineglass had nothing to do with the sugar that later became the sugar wineglass? It was the isomalt that became the wineglass. The sugar was only to fill it with something.
