Thank you! I'm sorry, I don't have a suggestion for what to use if you don't have a mold for the throat of the orchid. It's an essential piece of equipment for a realistic / botanically correct orchid. For the bird of paradise, I know that Petal Crafts has a tutorial for that here on KZbin. Just search for their channel.

When you use it in a cake, can you have floral tape in a cake? I’m hesitant to try

It's typical for us to put the floral tape-wrapped stems into a posy pick or straw before inserting into the cake. Some cake designers (like Finespun Cakes, whose work we love) do stick floral wire-wrapped stems into the cake directly. It's a personal preference. Floral tape is a type of crepe paper that's been waxed, so it's non-toxic. I personally think it's a lot worse to stick FRESH flowers into a cake, which have pesticides and other chemicals sprayed onto them and which contain all sorts of natural toxins that aren't safe for people to eat. And yet fresh flowers get stuck into cakes ALL the time. In my view a taped wire is a lot more sanitary and food safe than that... :)
