Muy completo Leonard,fino para pelear.Precisión y velocidad para pegar,aguantaba bien y pegaba duro.Un boxeador muy completo para su época.Tan es así que durante su apogeo solo perdió con Duran y fue el más le pego,aunque en la segunda pelea se vio mejor.Pero de que fue muy buen boxeador,eso no se discute.

El fraude correlon de Mayweather no habría tenido una oportunidad de sobrevivir contra ninguno de los 4 fantásticos si hubiera peleado durante esta epoca.Puro boxeador talentoso,mucha velocidad la de Leonard,muy fino y muy completo el tipo.Tan es así que durante todo su apogeo no perdió por medio del cloroformo.Ya cuando iva de bajada,desde luego que perdió con Terry Norris y con macho Camacho,pero en su apogeo ninguno de los dos le habría hecho ni cosquillas.Aca la prueba del nivel que tenía.

Estos dos y los otros 3 fantásticos le habría arrimado una buena pela al córrelon de Mayweather.No le habría alcanzado el cuadrilátero para esconderse.De solo ver estos titanes uno se da cuenta del nivel que tenían.Algo que el correcaminos nunca alcanzó.

Eran peleas parejas,en su apogeo los dos.Durante los 80’s estos dos dominaban sus divisiónes.Ya después de los 80’s este Leonard perdido varias peleas,pero durante todos los 80’s estos titanes si que demostraban corazón cuando se subían al cuadrilátero.

If i remember right this was on a Friday night, i was heading out for some wildness hell why not i was 17 or 18, i wasnt sure if Sugar Ray was for real or not and the tension was unreal in this one, such a great fight both fighters were so hard to hit, sugar ray more so cause Benitez was a counter puncher and very hard to hit, where sugar rays speed was incredible. It was actually free tv an ABC fight cause i remember Cosell calling it. Sugar Ray proved he was a great fighter that night and somebody who was going to have to be reckoned with for a long time. Only an eye injury kept him out for a few years at his natural weight (Welter, 147) He came back at middleweight an incredible thing to do.

They say the Fab Four are Sugar ray leonard Roberto Duran Tommy Hearns and Marvin ? Hagler . I think it should be rebranded the fabulous five to include Wilfredo ( the radar ) Benitez.

We had the highlights in the UK the next day. As somebody else has mentioned, it was on a Friday, so they fitted it into Grandstand, the Sat afternoon TV sport show. At school on the Monday everyone was talking about it, and everyone wanted to be Sugar Ray Leonard. The bits towards the end when they're head to head exchanging hooks have stayed with me since then - nice to see that passage included here!

Benitez a great and gentle champ, but him nothing can against this Ray Sugar more powerfull and ferocious finisher. TKO by the head cut, but also becouse continue, would have to become an excessive punishment for Benitez. Excellent refree decision after two knock down by a generous Wilfred. What shots and clean fight!

Still remember the 11th round where Leonard was taking the fight to Benitez. And out of nowhere Wilfred nails Ray with a stinging left hook that momentarily stunned Leonard and left him wide open. Then Benitez went for the home run with a right that JUST missed Rays chin by a whisker. Had Wilfred connected with it the match could have taken a very different turn. One of the very best title fights ever.

Leonard loved to wait until guys had a truckload of milage on them before he would fight them. He was big on show boating. He'd hold a guy at the back of the neck and hit him with repeated uppercut & and the referees let him get away with it cause it sold popcorn. I never liked Leonard, but he was a good fighter and even better thespian. I don't know why, but he was one of those guys I lived to see get his ass kicked.

En todos los sentidos Leonard se ve imponente,velocidad,defensa y contrataque.Benitez se defendía bien,pero no puedes pretender ganar una pelea si solo te defiendes.Una buena defensa tiene que venir acompañada de un buen contraataque para que haga efecto esa defensa.De lo contrario no puedes ganar.Leonard mostro en esta pelea que si le hubieran subido al cuadrilátero con el córrelon del Mayweather no le habría alcanzado el pasársela corriendo toda la pelea;de cualquier forma contra alguien así con estás condiciones como Leonard no hay modo que te alcanze el solo andar corriendo.A Benítez le faltó pegada,y si subió de peso eso también afecta,no le quitemos mérito a Leonard gran peleador.
