When the "Brown Bomber" Joe Louis says the Sugar Ray Robinson was the best of all time...and you get "The Greatest" Muhammed Ali saying pretty much the same thing...there is nothing else need to be said other than watching Robinson in the ring, his fighting was a masterpiece, win or lose, EVERYTIME he fought, he was a genius of an artist at work. Like Beethoven writing his 9th symphony or Michelangelo doing St. Peter's Basilica! Robinson was the best!

Walker Smith Jr. bka Sugar Ray Robinson the greatest ever. This guy was poetry in motion and the total package. The best welterweight and practically unbeatable at 147. He was also a great but beatable middleweight.
@nycinstyle3 жыл бұрын
Robinson never lost a welterweight bout. Only ever beaten against middleweights. Lamotta beat him in the 2nd of 6 bouts. Not a welterweight bout. At weigh in Ray weighed in at 144, Lamotta, a whopping 16 pounds heavier at 160 pounds. Ray fought and took on heavier boxers earlier in his pro career. Before winning middleweight title he fought in welter class against welters and also beat boxers weighing in above welter class. / Ray was undefeated as an amateur boxer 2 time NYC golden gloves champion and world welterweight champ as a pro for years and years. Never lost at welter and below in total app. 100 pro bouts and over 100 amateur bouts. He says it here he won 170 something bouts total pro and amateur before losing. After Jake beat him, Ray beat him in about 2 weeks later. He kept fighting against welters and middleweights. Didnt lose again until over 130 pro bouts in a decision against Randy turpin, a middleweight. .Then koed Randy months later. / Roberto Duran is my favorite. Joe Louis, Mathew Saad Muhammad, Ezzard Charles, other favorites. Sugar Ray Robinson P4P still the best. Duran at lightweight, Louis at heayweight, Charles at light heavy up there close, but Ray is the best, IMO. I got Robinson, Duran, Armstrong, Charles, Louis, Ali, Pep, Langford, Leonard, Mayweather JR. ... in top 10. / Robinson #1.

@@evnstvn58 Floyd gets mentioned on boxing videos a lot, and it's understandable since he is the best fighter P4P over the last 30 years or so. He is the best boxer P4P of the 21st century, for sure. Boxers like Duran and Leonard are better P4P than Floyd, IMO. However, Robinson is the best boxer P4P of all time, IMO, and no matter what anyone else may say Ray's best fighting weight is 147, Floyd's best fighting weight is 130. / Floyd squeaked by boxers like Oscar Delahoya barely really edging him out on points over 12 rounds at 147. Oscar is a natural lightweight, 135 pounds, too. Point is, Ray is 5 feet 11 inches, very strong, very fast, very hard hitting welterweight with incredible talent and skills. Floyd is 5 feet 8 inches and likewise is an incredibly fast, incredibly talented and skillful jr lightweight, not strong at all at 147 (welterweight). / Ray is naturally too big, too strong. HE will be moving Floyd back all fight and beat up Floyd using movement, a great jab and follow up punches to Floyd's body and head over and over and over. Floyd may win some rounds, but overall Mayweather, JR will be beaten up and likely stopped by Ray at welterweight. Floyd cant hurt Ray, hs punches will be ineffective while Ray will drive in body shots and out jab, out slug Floyd using his combination punching all night long.

Ali said it best, many records have been beaten over the years but no one has surpassed Sugar Ray Robinson's overall achievements. Even today, I don't think his records and achievements have been surpassed. SRR was a role model, not just in the ring, but his contributions to social programs like cancer research, and youth outreach programs, were exceptional and inspired other people to do the same. His intellectual abilities to manage his own contracts, his marketing ventures overseas, and his entrepreneurial undertakings in America were so far ahead of the times. People love him because he was such a great ambassador of the sport, a standard, a boxing genius, and a wonderfully humble human being. Very few can achieve becoming this total package no matter how rich they become. Excellent documentary!

Longevity is a huge part of Sugar Ray's greatness. Well into his 40's, he was still beating younger champions. That's fighting 4 times as many fights as Ali. That left hook in the fulmer rematch is the most perfect punch ever seen in boxing. Did you see how ray feinted to go to fulmers body, just the slightest of feints- fulmer drops his right to protect his body and ray lands the punch to the head and ENDS the fight! What a fantastic move that was. Also- when Muhammad Ali says he’s watched Robinson’s fights and says Robinson was the greatest p4p ever to step into a ring, that’s good enough for me. Ray was the best. You only have to watch him and wonder at him. When everyone thought he was finished, he went on for YEARS after, winning world titles time and time again. Yes he lost fights. Whats scary about Ray Robinson is the lack of footage when he was in his prime, Most of the footage of him is was when is was a MiddleWeight. He was basically Unbeatable at WelterWeight. Anyone who thinks that Ali is more accomplished just doesnt know boxing. Ray could knock you out moving forwards or backwards with both hands, he could KO you with every punch from a Bolo to Jab. He had an amazing chin (never knocked out) and quite simply the BEST footwork in Boxing history. THE G.O.A.T. Period
@spirgtudsrubec77763 жыл бұрын
oddyseus They are both the G.O.A.T. People always seem to forget, Ali was not allowed to box during the best years of his prime and with arthritic hands and later with parkinsons syndrome he still fought on for three to four years. Ali could also knock you out moving in any direction, so could Robinson. I don't believe you could distinguish between them, they were both natural, confident, courageous, charismatic and larger than life. two great boxers.
