Unboxing Video - First look at my new L460 Bernina Overlocker

Ooooh yes! Time to unbox a brand new machine.
This is the Bernina L460 overlocker. Going to have so much fun with this one!
I love sewing with knit fabrics, but I'm a complete beginner with sewing on an overlocker. In the next few months I'm going to write about my sewing adventures on the Dutch Bernina blog.

I received one free when I bought the Crystal Edition 790 on Black Friday last year. I have no clue how to use a it. I'm sharing with my dear friend. I am trying to learn about it by binge-watching videos. Apparently this serger came out about 8 - 10 years(?) ago. Thank you for the information

Hi Irene! I am happy for your new toy! There is so much to do with that serger! You can play with different thread in the upper looper (second thread from the left). I used regular yarn and did flatlock stitch. It is really decorative. This is the stitch type you need to open after stitching is done, like a book, and pull it apart. Look for some videos, not necesarrly Bernina, those stitches are on other sergers too. Most of the great serger tips I got from Brother and Husqvarna videos, I have a Juki. Of course the thread tension needs to be adjusted accordingly to the thread types. I also used metallic thread in the upper looper, with 3 thread rolled hem on a christmas table cloth. Metallic thread performs better positioned horizontally. I had it behind the machine on a pencil sticked through a foam coffee cup, threading continued normally through the thread stand's loop... The table cloth turned out spectacular with the metallic thread's dense stitches. You have chosen the perfect machine! First you need to learn manual threading, all the mechanical things. Me personally am not really temptated to get an airthreader. Have fun! I am looking forward for some amazing projects you will show at one point.

You are better off to learn to thread the machine so you know when something is not threaded correctly!
