Suhr Alt T Pro with Thornbuckers!!! - Tone Junkie TV

The Suhr Alt T Pro with the highly acclaimed Thornbuckers pickups. They don't just sound good in Pete's hands! The whole Tone Junkie crew was blown away at the sound of these thornucker pups, full or split they sound magical. Placing them in a killer Suhr Alt T Pro didn't hurt either.

I also own an Alt T Pro, although with a rosewood ‘board. This Suhr model finally quenched my thirst for a HB equipped guitar, including not lusting after Les Paul’s anymore. (Yeah, sacrilege I know!...) And yes, the Thornbuckers are awesome pickups. Great playing, great demo!

Pete is a killer artist so I'm not surprised his pickups are so articulate. Probably the only bridge HB I've heard clean that I actually liked. Really crisp in all positions.

I know it's been several years since you made this video, but wow that guitar with those Thornbuckers sounds great! Having done a tiny bit of research, it appears they don't use the Thornbucker in them any more which seems a shame.

Great video! Just stumbled on your channel, I am a Suhr fan as well. Just wondering if the split coil sound has some amount of 60 cycle hum? I met Pete at Namm (great guy) and he said it is surprising low noise for a split single coil. I can't hear any noise on your video!

So the switch works like this... Position 1 Bridge Position 2 Bridge and Neck split Position 3 Both Bridge and Neck Humbuckers Position 4 Neck split Position 5 Neck Humbucker In position 2 they are RWRP (I think) because I hear no noise. Position 4 has a slight amount of hum but it is much less than a normal single coil. I'm not sure why but it is very quiet. So quiet I didn't notice it at first.

Would you recommend with a Les Paul Classic with 9 hole weight relieved body? Still 9lb vs the prob 6.5 Tele here and a different wood. These sound incredible with the Tele.

Wow, the split neck sounds particularly incredible! Fortunately (for my wallet) non-contoured teles don't appeal to me ergonomically so this isn't on my Suhrs-to-buy list.

Great videos! I'm a P&W leader and lead from electric guitar. Mostly rhythm, but often I am the only electric guitar and I play the lead parts when the female is singing. I have a Suhr classic T and love it. Was wondering your thoughts on the Alt T vs. the JM with S90 pickups. Both sound so good to my ears!

Was this the Alder or Swamp Ash version? Sounds great either way. I have never gelled with Ash, so I am kind of assuming this is Alder.

Timeline set to a tape delay, 8th i think, and blue sky set to a hall verb. Kemper was set to a Blackface type sound. I had planned to sell this guitar after the review but those thornubuckers sound so great, I've hung on to it. Really great guitar.

Thornbuckers are on par with PRS 58/15 LT, both are closest a real PAF IMHO. I wish they hadn't switched to the SSV pups. I wonder if you can order on with Thornbuckers.

I know you're probably recording the sound directly from the Kemper, but what is the cabinet you have the Kemper sitting on? Is that a monitor or cab for the Kemper? Thanks!

Preston Keepfer Correct! Sound is from the Kemper but the cab is a Friedman ASM12.

How does this compare with the JM Pro? Considering buying one of them but can't decide between the two

The JM Pro has a flatter thinner neck and I think more comfortable when seated given the body contours, but some people are so used to tele bodies they don't want anything else. If you want a trem or p-90s the JM is the way to go plus it's a little more unique looking. If you are considering the humbucker JM, I would say the Alt T gives you split coil sounds so it gets the win there. If you want single coil sounds and hum buckers in one guitar, the Alt T Pro is very versatile but to be honest I could probably get everything I love out of the Alt T Pro by just putting the thornbuckers in another guitar.

Just sold my PRS 594 and want another double humbucker guitar that can rock a tiny bit harder than the 594 did (not like super hot 80s machine harder, but a bit more grunt). I’m between a JM pro with SSVs, Alt T w either SSV or Thornbuckers, and the Thorn Sig. What say you? I have a sonic blue JM pro with s90s w tone pros, and love it, but would be open to the trem on the JM for sure.

To me, not very it's only hollowed out on the one side I believe. Acoustically in the room you can hear it, but plugged in it's very subtle.

That's correct position 2 is neck and bridge split and position 4 is the neck split.

I'm sure a guy could add that if they wanted to. The Pete Thorn signature guitar has a push-pull tone control that puts the bridge pickup in parallel mode - but otherwise has a 5-position switch with the same options as this guitar.
