@@kuday2703 Maybe we were a minority compared to other displaced people. But in terms of the population in the "Borderlands", they really did remove many Poles. After all, from those people who survived, two armies were later built XD Anders' Army and Berlin's Army. Generally, in the years 1939-1941, the Soviets murdered more of us and treated us worse. My grandparents lived under both occupations and really, the Germans were cruel, I don't want to whitewash them. They should pay for all the destruction. But believe me, my grandparents, who lived under Soviet occupation, literally dreamed of being under German occupation... You really don't know what was going on there. Children were tied to tanks and rolled on the pavement. People's bellies were ripped open and their intestines were tied to a well and then they were told to run around. Then, during the "liberation of Poland", several hundred thousand women were raped. And everything I describe is only a fraction of these wrongs. And add that at that time the UPA was murdering us there, as well as the Lithuanians...

I think the reason Jadwiga was crowned King may be that in Poland the term for a Queen (PL: Królowa) is derived from the word for King (PL: Król) by addition of the suffix "-owa", which usually is used to make a term to address the wife of someone; e.g a General's (PL: Generał) wife in polish would be a concatenation of "Generał", and "owa" (PL: Generałowa), or the wife of a man with the surname "Fox" (PL: Lis) would analogically be "Lis"+"owa" (Lisowa), therefore the term "Królowa" was probably at first used to refer to the wife of a king, rather than a female monarch. Given that it was her, who was to rule, and not her husband, once she got one, she was crowned a King, and not a Queen.

We also have tax reductions for returning Poles. These incentives were primarily designed for Poles who emigrated in the 2000s, when we were a much poorer country, and are now coming back because the situation here has improved significantly. Additionally, they can take advantage of these tax breaks. I recommend looking into this topic-it’s possible that these reductions could also apply to you if you plan to stay longer. By the way, I’m a Pole working remotely for U.S.-based companies. Assuming your English is at a much higher level, you might consider a similar option depending on your profession. Poland is called Lenkija in Lithuanian, meaning people of fields. but it's also closer to Lech's name as well I guess. We have actually other unique names for countries like Germany being called Vokietija, which is still not clear how it originated. Also could you explain how we ruled ruthenia from Livonia, as Livonia is modern day territory and country of Latvia, Lithuania was ruled from Kernave and Trakai until Vilnius was established by King Mindaugas As well for the Commonwealth it was not a single entity as the union of Mielnik was never adopted and that was a very important distinction that was passed by Alexander Jagielio enshiring our seperation and rights as an equal partner in our joint republic as well its right to issue it's own lawns and rule, it's actual name was Reczpospolita Obojga Narodow or Abieju Tautu Respublika otherwise reffered as ATR (modern Lithuanian name for it) meaning "Republic of Both Nations". It had seperate armies, treasuries, laws and rights (Lithuania had adopted the Statutes of Lithuania in 1529, 1566, and 1588 giving rights and responsibilities to both nobles and the common people). i love your videos and been following for many years, but I am not sure how you made these statements without confirming and crosschecking sources. Late into demise you could say it became closer to a single entity but that was when foreign powers had more sway on internal politics of our countries. It's incredibly sad to see that our countries history is so readily ignored as a footnote by what I can only assume is lazy research in this case, not just by you but by general historical sentiment in the western educational system, as the history of the both countries strife and achievement, rivarly and cooperation, betrayal and unity amongst ourselves is an incredible story, it's a shame it barely ever comes to the surface due to convenience to skip over any depth. You cannot tell the story of the commonwealth without looking at both sides. It's like looking at Austria-Hungary and pretending Hungarians just appeared after ww1. And lastly Liberum veto was not complicated, it was incredibly straigforward and due to that incredibly abusable. If 1 person called liberum veto on a vote it would have to be scrapped, meaning you need to bribe 1 noble to tie up the hands of the whole parlament. The complicated part was the actual elective monarchy and parlament as the king would call session (usually to ask for raising taxes for money for some personal war) or could choose to just never call a session leaving him to semi absolutist rule, as years passed each elected monarch had to sign ever more decentralizing "contracts" with the nobility to be elected which in time left the position more ceremonial than executive, asides that right to call parlament.

The name Poland comes from the Polanie tribe, which probably also comes from the work "Pole", meaning field. So in Poland we are also called people of the fields.

Its because first tribes which were living in the area of Poland was mainly field harvesters. Their name was Polanie which can be translated into people of fields as you say. Pole means field in polish language.

It makes my head spin when I think that 123 years of Poland being gone from maps, WW1, WW2 and USSR's occupation of Poland was all in such a short period of time, and not that long ago, that I can basically touch the past with my hand. My ancestors had to go through so much horror for me to peacefully exist and watch this video. It's so crazy to me that Polish nationalism was so strong that even 123 years wasn't enough to eradicate it.

Gdańsk was not occupied because the people of Gdańsk hated the Prussians. Gdańsk remained part of the Kingdom of Poland until the Second Partition, but had no land connection with the rest of the kingdom.

The thing about beginning is that Poland was called Lechia or Lechistan by some countries.
@p.volansky11 күн бұрын
0:33 "Because who cares about consistency?" - The first name was Lechia (in ancient times). Then, in medieval times, it slowly shifted to Poland. Lechia is still used to this day by some countries, from Lithuanian to the Persian language. Worth highlighting to make sure it actually was consistent 😊 Also, great content. Keep it up ✌

0:30 Poland was the first major kingdom of the Lechite people (it's how Pommeranian and Vistula slavs were called back then)
@kacpermaciejewski83545 ай бұрын
It's tho just a rumor, casue we don't have much evidence of it, but yes. Theory says that Vistula slavs had some kind of union called great Lechia around I - V century. There is also the fact, that Cossacs refered to Poles as Lachs.

@@kacpermaciejewski8354 Im not talking about union of those people, they were just divided tribes, but they all were called Lechites back then because it just made talking about them much simplier

There was no police (Policja) in Polish People's Republic as you have shown. The policing body was called "Milicja" (Militia/Milice). Riot squads were called ZOMO, infamous brutal supressing force. It lasted till 1989.

Mam wielki szacunek do Litwy i naszej wspólnej historii.
