andy's "film snob" remark is part of why we cant have better movies, because people are willing to overlook lack of a good story or plot because a couple characters were cool

It's still a very valid criticism. Andy was yelling too much to actually explain why he was being a film snob. Better movies are made when we stop buying into shit movies. That is that. However, suicide squad was not a shit movie by any means. The pacing and tone were not all over the place as argued and the lack of character back story is not enough to ignore what is provided. If anything the lack of story can set up good material for future titles. The only bad thing about this movie was enchantress. Therefore film snob is the appropriate term in this context

Andy argument is completely subjective. His basing it on his bias perspective and his own enjoyment while Dan actually looks at Suicide Squad in a technical logical point of view. The fact that Andy was yelling also shows that his leading his argument with his emotions, rather than his head.
@madmoviematt47998 жыл бұрын
I haven't even seen the movie and I totally agree. It's painful. There is nothing worse than people who reply to logical arguments with incoherent loud noises. Andy literally didn't give any evidence to support his point of view. It was empty statements like "that character was cool", "that character had an arc", "I liked the flashbacks"..... yes but....... WHY?
@tacticalcactus28458 жыл бұрын
But... Whether a movie is good or not is largely subjective. Did you like the movie? (a) yes (b) no If a, the movie was good. If b, the movie was bad. As far as the studios care- Did the movie profit well? (a) yes (b) no If a, the movie was a success. if b, the movie was a bust. The answer was a.
@critz67198 жыл бұрын
That Guy yeah but there's still a way you can check it more technically/objectively, like did the plot make sense, was the editing fine? Was there character development. Did they explained everything that was needed to explain. Did the dialogue fit with the scene, was there any giant plot holes, was there unnecessary stuff thrown into the plot, and much more~ these are all things you can consider more objectively. It's better if you aren't strongly emotionally attached to the characters because it would cloud up your view & makes you too bias to think more rationally, which is what happened to Andy. He liked the characters too much & enjoyed it that his ignoring the technical flaws of the film.
@dawkosvk8 жыл бұрын
Well, it's still his opinion, and honestly, we all have some of those movies that we will always love no matter what. And there are those that we absolutely hate even though their reception's been great eg. Guardians of the Galaxy (hate that movie....)

I just think it's much more a rethoric fight than a factual one. The passion and creativity with which the arguments are presented are just as much part of the arguments as the data they are based on. They are discussing mostly questions that don't have an objective answer.
@mordirit87278 жыл бұрын
Wlof25 it doesn't actually. You can still rationally analyse that someone had a better performance in showing an argument. That is actually the only way to make some of those fights viable. For example, nobody in their sane mind would pit Pirates of the Caribbean as a better movie than Marry Poppins, but Hal had a better rethoric for Spencer. As I said, the way an argument is presented is just as much part of it as it's text.
@mordirit87278 жыл бұрын
Look, all I'm trying to say is this: it's about the arguments. An argument is what you say to try to convince someone of something. The way you lay down your argument is paramountly responsible for its success or failure at convincing your audience. So I see nothing wrong with giving credit to performance. If, as you said, your argument's text was pure nonsense and you still managed to make it sound like a sane and reasonable point, you surely deserve praise for that, since doing this is far harder than arguing for a factually correct point. You are just misunderstanding what an argument is. It's not just what you say, but the complete body of your speech. for example, even the fact that I chose to separate every step of my rationale on the beginning of this comment with periods instead of commas, forcing you to read them with a bigger gap between sentences, is a part of the argument I'm making that the method is part of the argument.

The way Andy tried to use dan saying 60% as his victory just shows how bad of a judge he is. He baited him into saying that knowing it was a fresh score. If the question was 'Is suicide squad: rotten or fresh as judged by Rotten Tomatoes' then Andy won easily. But the question is not based on rotten tomatoes technicalities. He chooses winners based on dumb technicalities and if one person says something that stands out and is easy to remember (like a number!) then they usually win. Dan normally plays to what he knows Andy would like thats why he wins a lot.

Harold Hernandez The argument that Dan sounds old, or is too much of a film snob or that lazy writing is okay because every other film does it are not just exaggeration. They're arguments of someone who holds film to no standard and disses those who do and it promotes the dumbing down of audiences and consequently of the content. He's not playing the Devil's Advocate, if he had then maybe it would have been acceptable. But as an argument for his opinion, it's just speaks to his lack of taste.

MizzReyRey I said nothing about your opinion. Liking a movie has nothing to do with its quality. And moviefights isn't about opinions because opinions are undebatable. It's about arguments and taste. How ironic is it that if you liked the movie it's all about your opinion but if I disliked it it's because I'm too hard to please and not because the film had so many flaws?

and that's exactly the problem. You just cant watch talkshows with politics ever. Always the same shit like this. Stopping the opponent to get his points across by speaking louder then him, doesnt make a great discussion. Countering the points of your opponent is, what makes a great disussion and is also the only way, how discussions can have a succesful result. You don't get a good compromise or the best solution by just shouting at each other. to summarize it. Just because politics to it, because it works, doesn't mean its a discussion process that should be used.

The first half hour of the movie is literally just boring exposition dump over montages, flashbacks, songs, and gross flashy text all horribly edited together. Not a single character is compelling or interesting. Every single joke and punch line falls flat, especially from Harley and The Joker, ironically. And characters like Slipknot and Katana are there just because, or to simply be used as a plot device. Enchantress is horribly written and performed, nothing about her motivation is interesting. The reason for the Squad to exist doesn't even make sense, because how many of those characters do you think could actually go against Superman? And why not just call Batman or The Flash, characters Amanda Waller had obviously had connections to in the past? This movie is nothing. It doesn't even have anything to say. It's hardly even a movie.

to share my experience with the channel, I have not seen the movie, BUT I DID want to see a DCEU movie succeed. if it didn't live up to expectations, I blame it on the mess it picks up from BVS. With that said, Id like to say that, despite the movie not being all that great, I disagree with Andy respectfully. I have seen many comic book movies and I think that though they might take graphic novel based cinema to a new different level, it may not matter as long as it's a good story makes sense. Suicide may not be too bad, (or not?) but that doesn't mean it has to be the dark knight, or Guardians of the galaxy. many movies have HUGE ensembles and worked well, so Im sorry Andy, just because they put in small cameos here and there with the characters all bundled up, does not mark a good movie, ocean's eleven has eleven people. ELEVEN! The Hateful Eight had EIGHT! so with this said, I'll still go see this movie, but I can safely presume that a movie like this CAN work as DCEU's own guardians, or oceans eleven. It may not be dark knight knight oscar buzz-worthy, but it can be as good as much as the graphic novel fans appreciate and accept, and as far as movie nitpicks (like myself) will be left thinking "okay, that movie makes sense".

I don't get why Andy insisted on DC taking a risk with the movie. It's probably the most safe project they had going. The team was well known from the DC fans (even fans of the Arrow series knew of the Suicide Squad), they placed a few A list actors in it (Will Smith and Jarred Leto), they hinted on Batman being in the movie and most important of all... they knew this formula will work because of Guardians of the Galaxy. A movie about a team of misfits coming together to save the world while a funky uplifting soundtrack plays in the background was already made and it was very successful, so the risk (with decent promotion) was minimal.

I liked Suicide Squad, it just wasn't what I expected... It turned out to be a more mindless action flick than what I thought I was going to get from the trailers, which looked like a gritty dark film that will show interesting themes, maybe more like a Nolan DC film... And I thought David Ayer would pull it off... Loved End of Watch, Training Day and Fury... But for some reason this was just an action flick... I still thoroughly enjoyed the film, I just wished they advertised the film to be more of purely just another action film, with a one dimensional villain etc... Imagine the film "Fast 6" was the first film in the fast and furious franchise, and we didn't know what the film franchise was yet... and they produced dark trailers that looked gritty and with deep plot story lines... and then you see the film and realise it was just a pure action flick.. very fun but that's not what they advertised us... A lot of people would be upset... That's what I think happened with Suicide Squad.

@DrAndyShick8 жыл бұрын
However, the 60 does pertain to the aggregated number of passes, not individual scores. A single score of 60 actually WOULD equate to a single rotten review. Andy could say the most honest, intelligent and believable arguments and I still wouldn't agree because of his attitude.
@KathyClysm8 жыл бұрын
The reason I agree with Dan is because I don't think being fun is an excuse for being stupid. We have already (somewhat) collectively agreed that that is not true when we decided that Michael Bay is horrible. Without a story, it doesn't matter if the performances are fun because you don't give a shit about them. Without a good story, it doesn't matter if the movie is pretty (BvS is the best example). And I hope we can all stop excusing movies that don't even try because otherwise we will be stuck with 90% of all movies being shitty and requiring the viewer to have the IQ of a stone to be able to ignore the massive problems in the plot lines - especially in comic book movies. The thing is, these movies are based on perfect stories, some of which so iconic they have influenced other genres as well.

Suicide Squad is an okay superhero movie; on par with the average marvel flick. So a 6ish out of 10 i guess. Questionable pacing, shots and music execution leave me curious as to what was left on the cuttingroom floor. Several of the removed or altered scenes- like a much more abusive Joker hurt this film a lot. Rocky character introduction. Slipknot doesn't even get a flashback and promptly dies. Go figure. Deadshot's daughter's acting and the xbox360 quality cgi used for Enchantress' brother were both standout bad. But overall fine movie. SS was no worse than any of the other movies of it's genre people spew praise over. Nothing to applaud, but didn't feel like the film insulted the characters or me in the audience. Even as a defender of this film, goodness I hate Andy's arguments. I may not agree with all of Dan's criticisms, but at least I feel like he's trying to come from a logical thought out place ...And humorously we'd both give it a similar score.

This is a rant about Suicide Squad, just keep scrolling... Saw Suicide Squad last night. Film lovers should study it on what NOT to do. DC Studio execs need to stop rushing films out (or being involved creatively in ANYTHING). I would have left the theatre if I wasn't with two friends. Fans of comics deserve better. Just because an average fan may not pick up how bad a movie is doesn't give a studio the right to crap on a movie's potential. This movie actually made me angry at the DCEU. I study films and this may be the last DCEU movie I watch. Boring as hell, edited to oblivion: 1. There is a part where they do a flashback to a scene you have already seen, for no reason. 2.Harley Quinn throws a gun to Deadshot when he has 2 guns ON HIS ARMS. 3. Captain Boomerang is told he is free to go and sprints out the room only for him to return to the group in the next scene without explanation. 4. They show a guard give a phone to Harley but no reason why until 30 minutes later in the film. 5. Every new scene needed a pop song (which went against the tone) even when the scene was supposed to be tense. 6. The one-liners are (aside from one instance) super cringey. 7. The villain is a direct reason why Suicide Squad shouldn't be a thing. She used to be on the team and escaped. Then the government agent sends the team she was supposed to be part of to kill her. Government should have said "Um, no. You"ve done enough making this situation happen. " 8. The plot is garbage. They spend several scenes entering a building that, because of how it was edited, we have no reason why they are entering. Helicopters get shot out of the sky by NOTHING (they do not show what is firing at them). And the Joker, for all his time on screen, does absolutely nothing for furthering the plot. He's just... there. 9. The final fight should have ended in seconds goes on because they make the antagonists suddenly incompetent. What killed a full group of armored guys with guns in 1 minute can't kill half a group of armored guys with guns in 15 minutes. This movie is such a bad joke, the Joker would put a bullet in it without even a grin.

"2.Harley Quinn throws a gun to Deadshot when he has 2 guns ON HIS ARMS." Cause, you know, he had alredy shot a million rounds at that point. No way he was out of ammo . . . "3. Captain Boomerang is told he is free to go and sprints out the room only for him to return to the group in the next scene without explanation." He was part of the comedy . . . It was in his character to immediately leave once he was free to go . . . but he's boomerang, so he came back . .. "4. They show a guard give a phone to Harley but no reason why until 30 minutes later in the film." They showed the Joker mesing with the guard, then he says something about Joker or boyfriend or something when he hands it to her . . . its not that hard. And if you DIDN"T show it, you would argue where she got the phone later on. "5. Every new scene needed a pop song (which went against the tone) even when the scene was supposed to be tense." The type of movie they wanted, the music works. This isn't some Oscar drama movie . . . "7. The villain is a direct reason why Suicide Squad shouldn't be a thing. She used to be on the team and escaped. Then the government agent sends the team she was supposed to be part of to kill her. Government should have said "Um, no. You"ve done enough making this situation happen. "" The fact that there was an instance to use them so close to them forming IS a reason to have them. If it wasn't enchantress, it would have been another meta human. The ONLY reason Suicide Squad exist is to allow a response to a threat WITHOUT getting any of the good guys in trouble for the collateral damage that exists from purely having meta humans fight. 8. He's just... there. Joker is there soley for the Harley arc. To understand her, you need to know the backstory. If she didn't think he was dead, she would NOT have joined the team in teh final fight. Her thinking he is dead allows herself to go all in with the SUicide Squad.
@mordirit87278 жыл бұрын
I'd like to refute some of those (albeit I have to say I doubt you study filmography, considering the order of the things you had issue with, much less about technique than you might think): *1. There is a part where they do a flashback to a scene you have already seen, for no reason.* Perhaps you could say what part it was, because maybe some people understood the reason. *2.Harley Quinn throws a gun to Deadshot when he has 2 guns ON HIS ARMS.* If you are talking about the two automatic pistols, he had literally just finished emptying their clips before the Enchantress took their weapons off, which was exactly why she didn't bother taking them. *3. Captain Boomerang is told he is free to go and sprints out the room only for him to return to the group in the next scene without explanation.* A great point. It was a bad flow decision, made solely for the "Boomerangs always come back" little joke. I got the joke and it made me laugh, but it still stands that it was a dent in the movie flow, even if it was a so obviously purposeful one. *4. They show a guard give a phone to Harley but no reason why until 30 minutes later in the film.* No, they don't. They show a guard who we just saw being kidnapped and threatened by the Joker give her a phone and say "It's from your boyfriend". First thing that happens after that is the guard begging her to put up a good word about him with the Joker when she meets him, which first implies he'll try to rescue her during the mission. The thing that *literally* happens as soon as that finishes is the Joker texting Harley that he is coming for her. All the reasons you could possibly want to understand that phone are on screen within the 30 seconds before and after the phone is introduced. *5. Every new scene needed a pop song (which went against the tone) even when the scene was supposed to be tense.* Which was against the tone? Every song had a message correlation with the scene that was taking place, which will be a huge bummer for non-English speaking audiences (watched with 3 friends, only one of who also speaks English, and we had a lot of fun later narrating to them the words of some of the songs in the scenes and seeing how they were amazed at how well it fit together). I can't think of a moment in this film where the soundtrack *wasn't* in perfect harmony with the imagery, but maybe you could give examples, instead of generalizing it. *7. The villain is a direct reason why Suicide Squad shouldn't be a thing. She used to be on the team and escaped. Then the government agent sends the team she was supposed to be part of to kill her. Government should have said "Um, no. You"ve done enough making this situation happen. "* They would, if they'd known it. They didn't, and that's established. They knew there was a meta-human destroying the city, they had no idea who or what it was. *8. He's just... there.* - The building was perhaps the worst plot point of the movie, not because it wasn't explained, but because it was explained in one sentence, so slower thinking people kinda lost it, but they clearly state that they are going to enter the city to rescue a High Value Target who is trapped in a building. It's in the scene where Deathstroke tells Flagg he doesn't "speak good guy". - Yes, they are shot down by nothing, and a few seconds later they are greeted by a huge army. - Why did Harley Quinn join the final bout then? Why was Amanda separated from the Squad prior to her kidnapping? Where did Harley's cellphone come from? That's already more plot points forwarded by the Joker than by Captain Boomerang, who is on screen almost every scene after they assemble. Every other scene he has is setting up Harley. *9. The final fight should have ended in seconds goes on because they make the antagonists suddenly incompetent. What killed a full group of armored guys with guns in 1 minute can't kill half a group of armored guys with guns in 15 minutes. This movie is such a bad joke, the Joker would put a bullet in it without even a grin.* What the hell is "half a group"? ._. The Enchantress clearly gave them a fighting chance to analyse them as possible allies. She had just lost her brother and was in need of people, I thought that was made bloody obvious when she literally said that she liked their fighting power, after showing that she could have rendered them weaponless from the get-go. You claim to dislike the movie because of expertise with cinema but seriously, almost all of your complaints are simply things you didn't understand from either lack of brainpower or attention. You didn't even comment on the horrible pacing of the editing of the Enchantress' escape, the godawful choice of actress for Deathstroke's daughter or the just poor choice of having Katana talk in a different language but still communicate properly for no reason.

I'm tired of listening people say "There's too many characters, they couldn't develop all of them". My answer is: Guardians of the Galaxy did it.

Marcos Teixeira Guardians and Avengers successfully tell stories of distinct individuals finding their places in a team through logic. Suicide Squad's character moments were largely unearned. I believe the worst example of this is Diablo inexplicably declaring SS his family and dying for them.

Everyone hating on Andy because he pokes jabs at his friends (something we all do), people need to realize what banter is. Movie Fights is literally just a platform to display as entertainment the various quarrels friends get in after leaving a movie. This is pure fun, I hope people start to chill out and take it less seriously. Going so far as to call someone rude nicknames because they have fun with their friends is quite ridiculous. Also, the people who he's poking fun at know he is just messing around and aren't taking it seriously. Yes, Dan and others may get a bit heated but it's all in pure fun, no one is genuinely annoyed. Most of us can probably call upon a time when you and your friends have gotten "passionate" about something and yelled, doesn't mean there is animosity there. Anyway, this message is literally too long but I ramble haha tldr: calm your shit, enjoy the entertainment and keep watching movies!

The saddest thing about this video is when they try to pitch sequel ideas for the Suicide Squad movie. Literally all of their ideas sucked :-/. But watching them act like they had the better idea and putting down the other's was just childish. These are grown men.
@robertcromack58948 жыл бұрын
Dan nearly had half a movie, but he was too hung up on contriving that Harley dramatically betray Joker at the end for some reason... as if that's the most important thing that needs to be focused on and needs the whole movie hijacked in order to do it. :\
@masterDarts41888 жыл бұрын
Robert Cromack yeah the idea of separating Harley from Joker is risky. They keep treating these characters like they're heros. That's the biggest mistake they make. Hell it's the biggest mistake the movie made.
@masterDarts41888 жыл бұрын
***** I don't think this is just a nerd thing to be honest. That being said out Dan's idea was the best. The one guy who wanted them to go in space was sounded like an idiot. And the other dude who sugfrated the Civil War thing sounded way too into Marvel.
@masterDarts41888 жыл бұрын
+tonim that was there biggest mistake. if there was ever a time to pour on the darkness Suicide Squad was it. but they kept trying to make it like Guardians of the Galaxy.

Dan is definitely nitpicking Suicide Squad, it's not nearly as bad as he's saying. Just because it has a generic ending and a poor villain (something that is common in basically every superhero movie, Marvel AND DC) that doesn't mean it's rotten. It was a ton fun movie, the characters had great chemistry, and I can't wait for a sequel.
