One of the greatest JRPGs of all time. This traumatized me as a child. My favorite scene was when Riou, Nanami and Pilika were all waiting for Jowy to come back outside the gates of Muse. When Jowy came back, there was utter relief on my part. But nothing will ever be the same after that scene. Nothing... This game fucking broke my heart. It's the greatest. Better than any Final Fantasy to date including FF7. And I just had an epiphany now that one of the reasons the story works so well is because of this music. This will haunt me for the rest of my life.

I did EVERYTHING I COULD to try and NOT play or to avoid the final duel at the end of the game. The illusion of choice in a video game. They told you you had to do something and fight your best friend in the very final scene, and I didn't want to. I wanted to just stop playing and not complete the game. That's how you know when a game is fucking legendary. Because you're so invested in the characters and the story that you do not want to perform the linear actions the game inevitably must force you to do. Masterpiece, this game.

You know, I've played the classic JRPGs like FF's 4 through 10, Chrono Trigger and Cross, Xenogears, Breath of Fire etc. All of them have awesome soundtracks but this theme is probably the best main theme to an RPG that I've ever heard. No piece of music has ever set the tone for a JRPG better than this one right here. The accompanying flashback video is great as well.

When I saw suikoden 2 I thought hmmm could be a fighter or something like that but it sounds Japanese so I decided to chance it! As soon as I got it an loaded it up to see only two options, new game or continue, I thought yessss I've got a new rpg to play! I got excited more so minute by minute as I went about camp! When I finished the opening and this music played...awestruck!! I can still recall the feelings. Best roll of the dice ever! OOOF all the memories, joy, sadness. When Nanami "died" I couldn't play for a week. Thats how good character developement is. You care about each and every one you meet. 108 stars of destiny.
