She ALMOST got the formula down for RE and shooting. For any newcomer to the series, Devs stayed true to the PS1 routes with regards to how bullets work, enemies aren't damaged necessarily by how much ammo you sink into them, but more the control you have over them via precise, slow shooting. RE2make is a good teacher of this, but it exists in all the newer games. In 2, the damage output to a shot is married to the crosshair, when moving, said crosshair will be fairly large, bullets are less accurate, and more importantly, less damaging at the cost of mobility, but stay stationary and the crosshair will shrink to an accurate pinpoint that will always do maximum damage (as far as said weapon can). Add to this the rule of damage animation, wherein it is largely wasted ammo to fire upon enemies like bosses who are staggering (as said animation is designed to allow you to compose yourself/heal/reposition rather than go on the attack) and RE, despite being an action horror series, is one of the more rewarding series for players who keep their cool. See, Botan for a player who has an understanding of how this game series differs from a lot of horror AND action.

To be fair, pistols in resident evil are only slightly more effective than spitting on them. Finishing moves and melee attacks are where it's at, especially in RE5 and RE6.
