Damn, I felt this. Just wrapped up university, and looking back on highschool, yeah I always thought I was going to be hanging out with people after school, or like going to the mall and working or something interesting. However I live in a somewhat rural area and the only way home for most students was on a bus. The busses would leave about 10 minutes after school ended and would only come once. For me it was either take the bus or take an hour and a half long walk during the Canadian winter. So everyone just went home after school. Hanging out with friends ended up being something we did over Skype (Discord later when that became a thing) while playing games. Obviously there were no Japanese style club activities, and most sports teams and the band would all practice before school started so that parents could drop their kids off or car pool. I feel like I missed some part of my youth, but at the same time it's just kinda how it is. My perception of what highschool and being a teenager was going to be like was shaped by the movies of the early and mid 2000s, and I imagine many these days are influenced by anime. The reality is that these are ideal depictions at best and downright fabrications at worst. I can only imagine this gap between fiction and reality has widened due to the pandemic and online learning. Take it from a veteran of such thoughts, don't try to compare your life to others in general, especially not the lives of fictional characters, it will only bring you sadness and depression.

Childhood is when you have the most freedom to just have fun without worry of too many responsibilities getting in the way. (At least to some extent. In a lot of ways my time in school was more stifling to my fun and happiness than my adult responsibilities.) But I also strongly believe you should not live your adult life in such a way that you no longer get to have fun. At least if it's remotely an option. Too many adults work themselves to the bone trying to chase success and money and forget to actually enjoy life in the moment and it's such a waste.

Back in my last year of high school. We had one delinquent. One of his pal is like top scorer of the school, he studied alot and bit arrogant but somewhat reasonable. Like not totally blown off arrogant. Either way when the delinquent guy said let's skip. Note: We didt fight or anything cause in our year we got a few athletes friends and we were the seniors, so no kids disturb us. So, when the teacher is late. We skip. We do nothing except just hanging around and just chatting. But it was a fun memory regardless. The delinquent flopped his exam while his pal is still one of the top scorer while I had mediocre one. A price I paid for skipping. But the memory is still priceless to me. It's not good, yes but if you value your teenage years. It'd make a good bookmark on your history, to be a delinquent in school.

I never went to any school dances or participated in school events. My highschool life was basically just playing video games with my friends during lunch(Pokemon and Smash) and then after we all split up due to different lunch breaks, I hung out with my friend Big Mike. I have only kept contact with 2 of my friends since then. An estranged, yet tight bond. I love those guys. TL;DR A fun highschool life is subjective. When I wasn't with my friends, I hated it. Those few days when Mike was sick were the most mundane. Also, I haven't retained or used any knowledge I got from that time. Everything I know now is from looking it up. The objectively best way to learn. Because teachers are fucking boring.
@frommler69452 жыл бұрын
Indeed, this is so relatable. A fun youth or school life is very subjective, most people think that if you aren't joining enough school activities or having fun in clubs then you are not living youth to the fullest,but in reality it is very subjective. All I wanted to do was just go home and play video games with my buddies or just chill by myself, all those school activities felt like a hassle to me. 2 to 3 close friends imo is very adequate anyways

What differentiates school life and adulthood is meeting the same people almost every day for years. All those people only have one thing to do in the end, which is to graduate. But once you graduate, each of them will have their own things and stuffs to do. You'll have assignments to do when you're in school, when you're an adult you'll have to work and stuff, it's not that much of a difference. I didn't miss "high school", I miss what I "did" in high school. Go and have fun with those same people you met every day while you can.

Man, my highschool years sucked. I just wanted to have friends, but in every group I went to they all just ignored me. I always thought it'd be cool to have a group of friends you could rely on, hang out with, and chat to like its nothing. In fact, I remember back in intermediate I thought I would be cool and have friends at some point, but it just never happened, even to this day. Today I've never felt more alone. People talk about nostalgia for high school but remembering high school days gets me feeling angry. The highschool itself was bad too, hate it. Hopefully I can get friends eventually, though to be honest I think I'm too far gone for that. Doubt anybody cares but if you're reading this and in high school, try be outgoing and find friends. Isolation does things to you. I can tell I'll probably never have a functional relationship with any human besides family, which really hurts to know.

This is coming from someone who is currently in their final years in highschool and have just about most of their highschool memories being in lockdown and online. Make friends and treasure them because highschool is where you make friends that lasts for life. Of course you can hang out and such, but you have to be prepared to be the one who makes these plans. Plus don't expect anyone to come because not everyone has free time like suisei said, not everyone really has the time, the money, the ability and sometimes all three of them, to hang out with you. If you don't have friends, that is also fine. Sometimes you don't meet anyone that matches your tastes and that is also fine. What's important is that you shouldn't be too afraid of the failing and being cringe, if you have a group of people that shares your interests just talk to them.

Something I tell my younger family members to not set their expectations too high. To just create their own memories and experiences because that's really what you'll always reminiscent about; It may not be as grand like in the movies/tv, like going to starbucks or to the summer fair. its not really how it works for general. being teenager/high schooler and adults, each has their own restrictions and freedoms. its ultimately depends on each person's personal experience. . there are parents that doesnt allow their children to scott-free having fun with friends, each days filled with extra lesson / private lesson / cram school. there are high schooler that doesnt have the leeway time other than to work part time because family situation. having to pass acceptable mark on many subjects at school isnt easy either, its like obligation as a student . adults have freedom to choose how they want to live their life as long as they can afford it themself, unlike teenagers. but theres no extra protection when you do something outrageous in the eyes of society, gotta keep mouth and behaviour in order if still wanna have livehood

But it's not working for those who work from 14). I don't feel like I can spend time on having fun now for 2 years, instead of having fun after "success" with money for rest of life. Maybe it's just personal idk

Sounds pretty harsh to live in the countryside when you’re restricted to badly maintained trains as mode of transport. I live in a third world country where underage driving is pretty much the norm, we can go pretty much anywhere. Just make sure to survive because accidents are also rampant lmfao
@fltfathin2 жыл бұрын
It's not unmaintained, just there's less things you can visit in countryside

During my school days: MY PARENTS ARE PAYING FOR MY EVERYTHING, I CAN'T FAIL, I GOTTA LIVE UP THE EXPECTATIONS. I CAN'T FOOL AROUND AND CAUSE TROUBLE FOR MY PARENTS. I DEPEND ON THEM TO DRIVE ME EVERYWHERE. OH SHIT ECONOMIC CRISIS, DAD GOT FIRED. CAN OUR FAMILY SURVIVE? During adulthood with my own income: way more freedom and peace of mind. Meeting new friends from work and hobbies I can finally afford. gee i dunno guys, I much prefer my adult life. Definitely beats being forced to study stuffs I don't like for 12 years.

Being an adult sucks lol I wish I wasn't quiet back in highschool and not hanging out with the wrong group

Honestly though, you *are* more free to have fun when you're an adult. I have to disagree that it's not the case. It's if and when you have kids that it all comes screeching to a halt.

Do your best with your hobies not what other people say is fun. Do it With your small group of friends or big if you are extrovert.

But being an adult is free though, but it also come with sacrifice. Being a HS gives you more pleasant way to enjoy things. Do I miss my HS time ? Yes. Do I have any regrets to be an adult ? Not really. Only the bills, tax, and house needs

being young.. you tend to think that you're more free to do what you want, less or no parents restrictions stuff like that when you become an adult which is true... And you will be eventually... But as you grow your responsibilites increase.... and those responsibilities take up most of your time... Dont choose or do things that will burn you out in the future.. And take care of your body while you're young... You wont have that time worrying about your health in the future if your already on the grinding stage.... Unleass you came from a wealthy family or if you have money to burn. Good luck
