I suit up regularly as I sing in several choirs. Unfortunately, the "uniform" is typically black suit, black shirt, no tie - not terribly exciting. I own a blue and a charcoal suit besides, and a number of sport jackets, and I get as much mileage out of them in the year as I can.

Real Men Real Style Since stylist always say, that 1) off the rack, 2) custom and 3) bespoke are the three tiers of suits, what’s the difference then between a suit I have tailored after being bought off the rack and a custom suit? They seem to overlap.

@@englisy6079 So I was wearing a custom navy suit with white shirt and black tie, white pocket square and a silver tie clip. This was accompanied with obviously a brown leather shoe and a matching leather belt (unfortunately not an anson belt). Also I had a watch with a little lighter brown leather. Since it was a custom suit, the fit was perfect and the suit made me look a bit more muscular given that I am a skinny guy. I am 19 but I think it was because I was better dressed than others that almost everyone in the wedding had a conversation with me(which doesn't happen very often) and among the first things that they mentioned there was always a positive comment about my attire. Eventually the groom, who was a cousin of mine, noticed that I was talking with numerous person and asked me if everything was alright since I was conversing with more people than he was. Then I explained to him that the people were the people were just complimenting me on my outfit and asking about me (who I am to the groom, what am I currently doing, etc...).We talked for a while about stuff that happended that day and in the end he told me (in a joking manner) to not steal the spotlight. That day I had gained 3 numbers 😏 and so much more confidence in myself. Btw, the groom was wearing a black suit and with matching leather but..... no watch😨😨

Antonio, I have been selling suits for 8+ years and every one of your 10 Golden Rules was spot-on. The only point of difference was whether to buy online or in-store - You must always buy in-store. The average suit seeker who buys an online suit at Macy's at 2:00AM in his underwear while chugging a beer has no idea what he's doing. First of all, he doesn't know his correct size. Secondly, each designer has different fits for different body shapes. You gotta'' find your fit. No exceptions. Thirdly, you're going to need tailoring. Most young guys buy for style, but that tight fit you just saw Jimmy Fallon wear may not work for you. What you need is appropriate for the occasion. I work with guys who have sold suits for decades and that knowledge will make a huge difference in how you look. Get it right the first time, guys. You don't have a second chance to make a good first impression. Again, great video Antonio.
@Gilmaris5 жыл бұрын
Absolutely, buy in-store. Someone with perfect proportions may get away with buying online, but most of us mortals need to look and test and look again. I am fortunate enough that I can _sometimes_ buy straight off the rack with no adjustments, but the jacket especially needs to be tried out in the store. And even if it fits you, you might find that once you wear it, it doesn't _suit_ you.

I had the unfortunate incident a few months ago that after a friends fathers funeral myself and another friend went along to show our support then after we got back to my house we were in the garden having a drink, I was told that I had to keep my suit on with said friend when the dog brought me her ball. Anyway I bent over to pick up the ball and my trousers split, it was a few years old and was bought before I had put on some extra weight so I decided to bite the bullet and buy a new suit. Anyway my local store where I tend to go when I need new trousers, shirts or a nice navy suit were great, I chose the suit that I wanted and they checked the fit in store and then made the necessary alterations before I collected it. You can’t beat a good suit from a good store.

Great videos as always. In my field of work, I’m fortunate to have to opportunity to wear my own. I’ve got a tailor overseas. I was able to attach/wear my gear, Comms, Cuffs, etc. My biggest challenge was finding footwear that had both the correct appearance and functionality. Like with you, another Serviceman/Veteran’s advice stemmed from the tradition of his old unit. Old Jungle Boots brought to a Cobbler who installed Vibram Lug soles and replaced the laces with 550 Cord. No, I didn’t do that, but I bought Chukka Boots, cut off the leather soles and installed Vibram Gumlight soles, not as elegant, but hold a good shine, offers ankle support and enables me to stand on the marble floors for hours. Thank you sir. For your videos and your Service.

@@RealMenRealStyle I'm in the middle of a big cut at the moment so probably just off the rack for now. Blazers I bought just a month ago no longer fit so I'll go bespoke once my weight loss slows down, and I've saved for a quality tailor. As for the style. For versatilities sake, being my first suit I would probably go for a solid dark navy, wool, peak lapels, flap pockets with twin vents, pleated pants, French cuff shirt. And of course the usual accessories. I can't decide between double or single breasted, or if I should go for a 3 piece with double breasted waistcoat. I guess I'll know when I see them in person. I'm also going to be thrifting for good condition suits that fit well enough to be tailored for me, so I could end up with anything! :) It's funny, a couple of weeks ago I didn't know the first thing about dressing well. Now I look forward to it every day. It's been life changing. I truly appreciate the work you do. Thanks again! :)

I have bought 2 suits in my life which is a charcoal and a black one. Both of which I wear always a suit vest with whenever I wear them. For the black I wear a navy blue vest with a gingham type pattern it's still all navy blue though with a navy blue bowtie and a medium grey over coat and looks very good. If I am going to the symphony w friends or I'm doing a gathering that involves fancy clothing during the winter this is my go to. Edit: the getup I mentioned was inspired off some looks from photos I saw of European clothing from the 1840s- 1870s. There are actually alot of cool diverse styles from that era surprisingly.

Made to Order (MTO) is the sweet spot these days. Companies like J. Hilburn and Indochino, or even Brooks Brothers now, keep your measurements and preferences on file plus you get a remake or two until it fits the way you like. As they release different cloth and style, it is easy to order up something new. My preference is J. Hilburn and their suits run from about $800 up to $1600 depending on material and options. For $1000 it's a classically styled suit that'll last 15+ years with proper care; hard to beat that when you do the math on cost per wear over time.

White and "Light Oxford Blue." For Formal Dress or Formal Business, those are it. For Black Tie, it's White only. For Dress or Business Casual, you can get pretty creative with your shirt color - knock yourself out. Good rules of thumb: 1. If you are expected to wear a suit and tie at work, stay with White or Oxford Blue because you don't want to look like you are going to a dance club. (Unless you work at one.) 2. If the dress code is jacket and tie, it's generally best to stick to a fairly conservative color, regardless of locale. Hope anyone who needs that info sees this.

This is such a great video. Big fan here. Sometimes, when I go in to buy a suit, I am always second guessing myself and always thought the more money I spend, the better the suit.

some people love to shop online, but nothing beats trying the garment, checking the color, texture, fabric, etc, etc in person...unless you are buying a second something that you already own, how do you know it'll fit properly? I try at least 10 pairs of shoes to find the one that I fits me well...

Do you recommend belt loops or side tabs? This is an incredibly helpful video!

Not Antonio but I would say side adjusters if you do indeed have the option.

Getting well researched for getting myself a fresh new business suit, something I haven't done since high school lol.

If your not growing just go for no break altering your pants. Unless if the fabric could schrink a bit 😅

Great informative video as always and have just bought some knitwear and some denim from the organisation here in the UK. Will be looking for another suit next month.
