What do you think: which camo scheme should I use?
@foreverplastickits138 Жыл бұрын
@@ModelNerd It depends of which nationality you'll choose, the polish scheme with the tiger stripes is my favorite. Have fun build this beautiful plane!

Good luck with this one, will come out great I am sure. My experience with KH kits is that test fitting is the order of the day and normally not just the part you are working on but others around it. Will be watching with interest. Cheers!

Thank you Les. Yep, hoping to finish the Spitfire first and then I'll move on.

I would build the fuselage and try the decals on that. Just buy a gallon of decal set and see if they will go down on the surface and not mask too much detail. I kind of agree on the decal colours but I think you could airbrush in more colour on the decals. It will be a lot of work but well worth it.

Thanks Allan. Yes, I think it is worth a try for sure.

Thanks. Yes, I'm going to get the correct paints this weekend I think.

Su-17/22 from KH is the most shape-accurate and detailed one on the market. Not without flaws (nose air intake inside duct and chock cone, some details) but still. HB's one is much easier buildable but has serious shape and detail issues. Wing consoles are movable in KH kit but there are no synchronization mechanism whatsoever. So if you want them to move in a synchronous way you'll need to construct synchronization mechanism yourself from scratch.

Thank you - that's really helpful information - especially about the wings

Have never seen decals that large, indeed a Hurculean effort needed to put them on. Nice looking kit. The period the aircraft was in service was at the beginning of my sabbatical , I mention that because I'm surprised the Germans would have brought Russian aircraft, I'm rusty on that period of geopolitical times.
@ModelNerd Жыл бұрын
That surprised me too. Unless it was a left over from the East German regime?

I think that would be super, super hard to be honest. Definitely don't think I could pull that one off!

This kit is so detailed....maybe a tad too many pieces imo. Agree with your sentiment, MN, the tiger scheme is not the best especially when compared to the original photos of the aircraft. I've never built a Kittyhawk kit before but I've heard varying reports about them. We'll no doubt see what you think when it's on your bench in the future.
@ModelNerd Жыл бұрын
I figured I've got all the colours to do the underlying scheme, so I will do that and then try to apply the tiger decals. If they don't work or they look rubbish (quite likely, I think), I'll throw them in the bin and put other decals on it without needing to repaint it :)

Mr Nerd that's quite a distance to go for a model plus I think driving there on a plane might nullify the cheapness of the kit

Tried to build a KH kit one time of the Sabre Dog in 1/48. It was a terrible kit. Way too many parts for simple sections that didn't need so many parts, and on top of that nothing fit together correctly, it was a total nightmare of a kit. I didn't pay very much for it so I didn't feel to bad when I tossed it in the trash bin.
@ModelNerd Жыл бұрын
I've heard very mixed things about their kits....this isn't one I am looking forward to, although I do like the subject.
