Sukhoi Su-25 Rook is an attack jet introduced in the early 80s in the Soviet Union.
It main goal was to replace Su-17 and MiG-27 as a close support plane, introducing two engines instead of one. Since 1981, it served as a tool of war in almost every major conflict and war. Currently it is the main star and one of the last Mohicans in the Russian Invasion in Ukraine. While every other platform is more rarely seen, Su-25s are all over and from both sides of the conflict.
This is one hell of a jet, ugly, rugged and almost indestructible.
Despite many shortcomings like having a spartan cockpit, being unpressurised and outdated, with slow speed, weak engines and low service ceiling, this jet was designed to do a job that it does at 120% rate 40 years after its introduction.
There is hardly any major conflict that goes without the #Frogfoot being involved.
This video is my take on #Sukhoi #Su25. Even though not a fan in particular, this jet has my respect.

The Rook is also more than 250 Km/h faster than the A-10. Something worth mentioning when comparing aircraft.

Nope, not that much. Su-25 is very crippled in terms of speed, especially at altitude.

well, the su-25 factory was located in Georgia and was destroyed by the Russians in the 2008 invasion, so much for many of the spare parts then….

The plane is still “in production” according to the Russians though.
