There is so much technical stuff going on in this episode! Sukuna does not have a closed shell for his domain, Malevolent Shrine sits in its proper dimensions on the ground. Because he chooses to expand his domain like that, it’s possible for you to walk out of it, so Sukuna can employ a Binding Vow to enlarge its diameter. Also, Mahoraga adapts to *phenomena* NOT CT applications. This means if he adapts to Jogo’s fire attacks, he automatically adapts to all fire based CTs that work the same way. That's why Maho survived Sukuna's domain: he already adapted to *slashes* as a whole.

Also something that not many ppl noticed, but when Sukuna said "you can see my technique", it was because he noticed that when Sukuna used Cleave(which attacks things with cursed energy), Mahoraga would block it with objects, like the train, or turn off his cursed energy to block, and when Sukuna used Dismantle(which attacks things without cursed energy), Mahoraga would imbue itself with cursed energy. Meaning Mahoraga had already seen and understood Sukuna's techniques just after a few uses in the beginning of the fight.

It's more complicated than that, Mahoraga adapts to the specific attack he's subjected to, but if this adaptation can help him in any other situation, he still gets to use it. So if he adapts to Jogo's fire, depending on *how* he adapts, it might protect him from Sukuna's fire, or it might not because Sukuna's fire is different and stronger in some way. For example if the adaptation he choses is to turn in skin into a material whose fusion point is higher than Jogo's temperature but lower than Sukuna's temperature, adapting to Jogo's flames wouldn't protect him against Sukuna's. But if he somehow became completely fireproof against Jogo, it would work just as well againt Sukuna.

It's not explicitly stated and at most it confirms Sukuna was just trying to mess the timing on mahogara. I have so many things to say about this episode, but since other people will tell you about the differences between BlueRay and original and at what point mahoraga adapts to what, I‘ll focus on the part I see talked about less: The music. Specifically the track "maleavolent shrine“. In the first season, I was a bit confused about Sukuna‘s character. He‘s without a doubt the most narcissistic psychopath murderer of all time, but his clothes when he‘s in his innate domain sort of read as "priest“ to me. Coupled with the fact his domain is called malevolent shrine, that left me a bit confused because I could not imagine Sukuna believing in any sort of higher power (than himself). As soon as he used his domain here, the track burst into what I can only describe as a chorus of souls. It (to me) sounds like they are haunting their murderer and crying for mercy, yet they almost sound worshipping of a god of some kind. Right then, I understood. Sukuna has two faces, that‘s not a priestly trait, but a divine one. HE is the god of the malevolent shrine and his offerings are the screams of the innocent as they get slaughtered by forces beyond their comprehension. Bravo to the composers, I‘ve never had a piece of music fill in the blanks in my understanding of a show.

They are also very innovative and thinking outside the box (especially Sukuna). Both of them are pretty much the perfect sorcerers, the pinnacle of jujutsu. There is One thing that I find terrifying about mahoraga. It’s not his design nor his ability (basically Charles Darwin’s theory 😂). It’s his laugh and his smile. This… thing laugh while being destroyed. While growing. And when sukuna undertsands his technique he has a BIG smile like « yeah you Know my ability… so what ? What you gonna do ? ». I have yet to see anyone comment this. Maho was also adapting combat wise. An example of this is, if you slow down before the sukuna fake out scene. Maho is putting his limbs in the perfect position for sukunas slices to cut it off thus sending it flying to sukuna. He does this multiple times and is the reason sukuna starts faking him out.

the reason mahoraga was punching the air in some scenes is because he was anticipating sukuna to slice his limbs off and send them flying towards him as an attack. basically sukuna started faking him out by looking like he'd throw a slice, but he'd actually throw it later. since mahoraga could no longer tell when he was actually gonna throw a slice or if he was gonna fake it, he started punching the air. after that, mahoraga adapted and did something similar. mahoraga faked out sukuna by throwing a fake punch making sukuna block in a certain direction, then mahoraga would throw a real punch from another direction. this actually made sukuna happy because he felt like he had corrupted a divine being by teaching it how to lie. (all this was stated in the animators notes for the episode) such a peak fight especially when you fully understand what you're seeing🔥🔥

Not sure if someone pointed this out to you already, but from about 8:17 Sukuna actually starts throwing feints, without actually attacking. This is to force a reaction out of Mahoraga, which it does. Mahoragas wheel spins as it is trying to comprehend what Sukuna is doing, and at 9:00 (even though you cut it out here) Mahoraga finally figures it out and throws its own feint at Sukuna and then proceeds to finally land a massive strike. Sukuna is elated because he feels as though he has taught a celestial being how to 'lie' or be deceptive.
