This came out quite long, so I put time stamps in the description. There is also a small mistake in the video. I say that you can choose any photo style to use simultaneously with the filters, but you can actually only use STD. Or the camera defaults to STD, if you turn on the simultaneous capture. I don't know how that happened, because I tried it, but obviously I was sloppy and missed something. I'm really sorry about that.

If you turn bracketing (or any other funtion for this matter) often on and off, it is also a good idea to put this function on a function key. Besides the normal function keys Lumix cameras also have "soft" function keys, which are accessable via the touch screen.

Thanks for the video! Very handy as I continue to explore my new camera. I just broke my right arm this month... and part of my income depends on taking photos. Losing use of my dominant arm has been tough, but I found that it was useful to set my camera to a 2s timer, and then I activated the Touch to Shoot function for the LCD. To shoot, I hold the camera up and touch my desired focus point with my nose, then continue using my left hand to hold the camera and compose my framing. The Dual IS has also been a godsend in this scenario. I never used the touchscreen for shutter release before with my last camera, but it’s good to learn all the camera settings just in case they become useful some day.

Dear Matti, Thank you for all tips , tricks and explanations...I have one remark on the pictures taken in JPEG. You explained to us if you use JPEG you can add a filter, to get a color file and a black and white file. Ok that is fine and a good way to get those different files. I discovered also an other way...Take your pictures in the settings RAW-JPEG... You can shoot in every black white or filtersetting you want.(that is with AI always a JPEG file( for instance BW). But the RAW file is always in basic color setting and stays like a master...So you don't have to change in your custom menus.

Great video. Some were new, some I forgot about. One thing I have to say about Lumix and especially the G9 is there is so much it can do that it is often an underrated camera system. When hit with a situation for photography or video, I first go to the G9 to see what it can do. For 2020 it was my go to for many situations (all volunteer work) and Panasonic Lumix G9 came to the rescue. I did find my first lens Lumix G 14-140mm II, has been the most used lens and a favorite of my friends. Some times you can do more than you realize, I know I did, with a budget lens.

A very good reminder to go through camera menus once in a while to re-discover or discover features hidden in the myriad of menus. Q-menu customisation is a good tip especially when the fixed setup of Q-menu repeats many of the functions already available behind dedicated or Fn-buttons (ISO, WB, etc.). The mysteries of AF part of Lumix G's one can never talk too much either. So many useful features, which are just waiting to be discovered (and then forgotten again :-) ). Panasonic really does not make using their cameras too easy by publishing user manuals with the quality way below their cameras year after year. I wish they would finally hire someone capable of writing useful and ergonomic manuals. I recently discovered that in Germany they have actually done that - sort of. German photo journalist Frank Späth seem to have published decent, dedicated user manuals for all G-series cameras. Bought one for my camera and was quite impressed as it appears to be the manual that should have been supplied with the camera at the first place. The only problem is that the book is in German and explains the menus in German. Got to wonder why there is no English or any other language translations though especially when the book is endorsed by Panasonic (Germany).

@sulantoblog Thanks for these tips - I'm inspired to spend time reading the manual and going over the menu options. Suggestion for a future video - how to effectively use tracking AF on Lumix cameras. I often get confused by the relationship between Tracking, AF-C, high shutter speed, etc.
@evshrug4 жыл бұрын
I second this idea! While I know about high shutter speed (shutter is open for a shorter time so fast moving subjects don’t have time to move and blur) and AF-C (continuous focus: the camera is always adjusting focus even without a half press of the shutter, good for video or instant shutter release in sports), my tech experience is old school so I don’t remember how to enable tracking (the point the camera tries to focus on will track a certain spot on a subject as it moves around in the frame).

Thanks! I'll remember that for the future.

I guess this shows how the options evolve over time. My old Lumix 1000 doesn't seem to have My Menu, filters to output B&W at the same time as color, custom file names, or exposure compensation reset. Otherwise, spot-on. Customizing the Q-menu and selecting a custom WB has indeed been useful.

I have to correct you about the filter options. If you set the camera to record both jpeg and raw simultaneously, you will get jpegs with filter and regular raw pictures. I absolutely hate the UI/UX, full of dials, sub menus of sub menus. Photo and video is mixed totally together, photos mode has settings, video mode has settings, general has settings, there are two settings in general, and settings has settings. WHO the f came up with this insane system? People says Panasonic is way better than Sony, then I don't want to know how terrible they are. As a result of the terrible UX/UI I'm never entirely sure the camera is set to the correct settings for what I'm about to do, which ruins the experience completely.
