Wondering if you have any suggestions re: G9 smooth video motion challenges --- there are 2 things i'm not sure about: 1) selecting the 2 modes of ibis up down or full, and how does that work with EIS? MY problem: I'm shooting widebody aircraft on runway at fairly close range with pana 100-300. when the aircraft is down the runway or landing far approach (so angle is much less that 90 degrees to me), everything is perfectly smooth, but when it gets closer to where i am, and i'm perpendicular to the plane (like 60-90-60 degrees), i'm having trouble: motion gets a bit jerky when i have to pan more quickly and i am very steady just rotating torso slowly. It's as if the stabilizer is fighting the motion if that makes sense (this is why you use the up down mode right?) . I have tried changing ibis type to full (hand in menu) vs up down (vertical arrow in menu), this does not seem to solve the problem. Does EIS interfere in this scenario? The distance when i'm perpendicular to the plane is probably 125m i guess, and the plane is moving fastest at that point of course. My shutter speed is 125 for 60p 1080. I'm not sure what to do. I have "professional" results as long as plane isn't right in front of me but when i rotate a bit more and the subject is perpendicular (and moving much faster also across the frame), i get the jerkiness. I have tried at lower zoom as plane approaches my point, same result. Always handheld, and just rotating my torso steadily. Any idea how I might solve this (without using wider angle or gimbal). THANKS. I guess i can try turning off and on combinations of ibis vertical, fuill, eis and ois. I don't think my own movement is the problem. Tripod not really option as on ebike.

Hello, I got a G9 yesterday and wonder if there is a decent lens between 100-200mm (equiv) that you recommend for *low light video recording* please. I will also be using a polarising filter to film fish in shallow water, so glare is an issue as well as the low light, i need the extra reach as I am often up to 25-30ft away from my subjects. Thank you very much in advance!

I'm trying to film in 4K but getting quite a bit of motion blur/judder when panning or when people/cars and objects pass by. I've tried filming in 25fps @ 1/50 shutter speed, then tried 30fps at 1/60shutter, which was a little better but still not very smooth. This G9 camera has some negative points, for example, the recording limit of only 30 minutes, which is very bad when I am filming with it at a long-term event, for example, an interview or a wedding. And if I need to record a video for more than 30 minutes, the camera will turn off, and I will miss important moments and images. And the camera also heats up a lot when recording in 4K. The camera is excellent for photography, but for working with videos with long events and long interviews, it is very bad because of the recording time limit of 10 to 30 minutes.
@mattisulanto11 ай бұрын
You could also say that a wide angle lens is not good if you need a telephoto lens. If you need a camera that can record indefinitely, you'll choose another camera, of course. There are many to choose from. I don't understand why you'd even consider the G9 if you need indefinite recording time. However, many users never need to record more than 30min continuously. For example I make more than hundred videos every year and I never need more than 10min of continuous shooting.

Is the Panasonic G9 good for video?
@mattisulanto Жыл бұрын
Yes, it is.
@vladislavihl3 жыл бұрын
I‘ve been using my G9 for 2 years for stills and videos and, imho the best lens for this camera is the Panasonic 35-100mm f2.8. I use it from macro over portraits till tele shots. It provides a very pleasing boke if you use f2.8 at maximum focal length and minimum distance to the object! As for the 10-25mm f1.7, it must be a very good length but if you consider its price, I‘d better pay 200-300€ more and get a S5+20-60mm lens for this money (according to the test here kzbin.info/www/bejne/m4i4doWul5t7gbM , made by a Japanese guy, the optical results would be similar as for sharpness but the S5+20-60mm combo would provide a visibly better DR.... And it would be lighter than the G9+10-25mm combo)!
@mattisulanto3 жыл бұрын
Because the video is about the G9 I wanted to show that lens too, because it's the best for that camera. The S5 is an awesome camera, don't get me wrong, but if you already have some MFT gear and you shoot a lot of video, it may make sense to use your existing system. Besides, the 20-60mm lens has a variable max aperture, which is not great for video and also it does not have stepless aperture option.

Great points well made Matti! We are using Lumix cameras for video productions on a daily basis, a G9 is part of our kit as well. Great to see Panasonic developing cameras with some really useful new features through firmware upgrades. The G9 upgrade a year ago made it a serious video camera, the ergonomics of this body is among the best. The only wish we have is that Panasonic would enable timecode in via the flash sync port, just as the S1H and GH5S has.
@mattisulanto3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I'm afraid the G9 may not get timecode, but it would no doubt make it even better.
@jeffslade18922 жыл бұрын
Neither the GH5 nor the GH4 has that time code sync out. Both can output the time code on the HDMI. We've only been using the GH4 like this for like a million years. I do synch the GH4 with a G7, it being a common practice to use a G7 as the B-Cam, which doesn't do time codes anyway, with a dog clicker. Loss of time code synch is not a big thing at all unless you're doing pro video, in which case you probably won't be using a G9.

Thank you Matti for the informative video. I film with the G9 on the Lumix 12-60 kit lens, but I dream about the Leica 12-60. My problem was finding the best settings for filming that would work best on Instagram videos, due to IG's own compression algorithms. In the beginning I had big quality problems because IG would kill the quality if it was too contrasty. Now I shoot 4K25p8bit MOV, Natural mode with contrast -5, Sharpness -5, NR -3 and Sat -2. From Premiere Pro I export 1080p with only 2-3Mbit bitstream so the files stay small and don't get that super compression from IG servers. And I don't grade the video. After uploading the videos still have that IG softness but at least now the shadows don't get crushed anymire like a factory worker in a Soviet-era steel mill. I cannot say that I am still super satisfied with these settings but at least in my opinion the technical quality is getting better. Luckily I am my biggest critique, so on the image quality I am way harder on myself as the general audience. If anyone has some extra tips for IG production, I would also like to hear from other creators.
@mattisulanto3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I'm no IG expert and also not familiar with Premiere settings, but I think you should export at higher bitrate settings. Higher quality video probably suffers less after it goes through that IG process.

I would have bought a G9 to add to the GX80, except the price keeps going up. This time last year the G9 cost £799. It's now £999. That's quite a lot for an "old" camera in digital terms.

They already released this camera and it's called the GX9, thats the camera i feel i should've bought instead of the G9. The G9 is fairly big and with the stupid fully articulating screen (which i thought would be awesome) it becomes even bigger and awkward for low angle photography! If you take pictures of your children or animals primarily then buy the GX9 + 15mm 1.7. The G9 is what i like to call a field camera, if you go out with the intention of taking photos of nature including landscapes then G9 + 12-60 Lieca is fantastic.

That was excellent thank you. I’m actually buying the G9 tomorrow primarily for video along with photography. My retailer has a deal on for the G9 bundled with the Leica 12-60, Panasonic 1.7 25mm and spare battery. I’ll be having a look on your channel at all your G9 content and once again thank you for taking the time to put together a concise and comprehensive list of helpful points for video.

In the provided links 100% ONLY panasonic gears = 100% panasonic engaged (paid).

I'm a Lumix ambassador and this video is about the G9 and Panasonic gear, so naturally the links are for Panasonic. Except for the NiSi ND filter. I get a small comission from the affiliate links and also some revenue from the KZbin ads, but no other payment from anyone else. The law requires me to disclose any paid content.
