To me the reason she is so upset is because she sees Maria as her only true friend. By her becoming Muslim open the door for her to have chance with the Sultan. The love she has for him is too powerful for her to control her anger once they send her to him. I feel bad for Maria cause she truly loves Hurrem.

Can we have a moment of silence here for Hattice and Hurrem's close friendship? They got along well, until Ibrahim and Mihri kept poisoning her with lies. Then she went crazy. Hurrem got her married to the man she wanted, saved her and her first baby, 2x, and then helped keep her and her babies safe during the uprising. But all that flew out the window when Hurrem told her the truth.

The thing is İbrahim sent Gülnihal to Sultan on purpose, whereas it is kind of against the rules, as Gülnihal was at Hürrem's service. And Gülnihal could have told Hürrem and this smart woman would have found the way out of it. But in any case, what Hürrem did to her friend, was outrageous.

@@yelinka1 thematically speaking, almost all women, and especially harem noble and rising ones, were put against each other. Power gain and survival where almost one and the same thing. Conflict between Nigar Hatun and Gulsah reflected the one between Hurrem and Mahidevran, as both plotted against each other. Gulnihal was really an exception from this patern, she was too friendly and loyal.

The system was that once a harem woman begets a son, she is sent to another palace where her duty is to raise her son with complete attention n ensure he is worthy of becoming a Sultan some day. The fact that Mahidevran continues to stay at Topkapi, was that she is smart enough to get what she wants and wasn’t prepared to surrender to the system.

She would stare at Ibrahim from the balcony making him wonder what was wrong. Yes, every other person targeted Hurrem and she had to fight back but in the case of Ibrahim, she looked for his trouble first.
