About the album:
‘Lucid Movements’ is a sonically experimental and creatively ambitious ambient album by Emerald Ancients, the analog-tape-heavy moniker of Minnesota multi-project artist Chris Bartels (Elskavon, Blurstem). Drawing profound inspiration from the evocative and complex poetry of T.S. Eliot, the album translates Eliot's themes of existential angst, spiritual desolation, and longing for redemption into a rich auditory experience. Created in the studio using a variety of innovative techniques such as pitching and warping, granular synthesis, and analog tape experiments, ‘Lucid Movements’ is an immersive journey into the emotional and intellectual depths of Eliot’s poetic universe.
The album artwork mirrors the sonic experimentation and emotional depth found within the music. It features an experimental blend of old and new elements, juxtaposing vintage black-and-white photographs with modern abstract designs. This fusion creates a visually striking contrast that evokes the timeless and fragmented themes explored in T.S. Eliot's poetry. The raw, textured layers of the artwork, with its rich and tactile feel, reflect the analog tape experiments and granular synthesis techniques used in the album's production.
