Fullkrug is the one signing that I think Tim made a blunder on in his first summer window with full control. I actually like the look of Guillerme. Sullivan has made a hell of a lot more blunders than that, so removing him from transfer duties would be harsh, but exactly what I expect from him. I'm sure he's been hoping Steidten would fail so he can go back to playing championship manager again. It's hard to judge how good the players are we've signed until we see a decent manager use them.

Would argue that the only good signing was AWB. Bargain. Kilman decent but we overpaid heavily. Todibo seems to be a problem character. Rodriguez is a poor fit. Fullkrug straight up disaster, terrible player. Summerville is powder puff no end product. Guilherme is a disaster. Terrible window in hindsight.

We as a fan base know NOTHING for sure. We don’t know how EXACTLY the signings since Steiden has arrived have come to be. How much Sullivan has been involved or not. Who picked who. I agree certain players point towards certain people. But we don’t know for sure. All speculation. In my opinion, the signings since Steiden arrived feels more like influences from Moyes/Loppy and Sullivan. Instead of Steiden getting told a style of player needed and then getting the best that best available player. If that’s the case, we can’t blame Steiden nor judge his ability to do his job. As far as pearl diver. Pearls are rare. And even when found, need to be cultivated. Guiarmme could be that pearl. But will never become a pearl sitting on the bench.

I have no idea who is in charge of anything at the club , apart from who selects the players and what system/tactics we are deploying and that is down to Lopetegui . As far as recruitment goes I really do not understand how it can work at our club . What was brought in in the last window really didn't make sense for the head coach we have , because he isn't selecting the players to fit what he has to play progressively . Maybe with the rumoured transfer targets ( Jonathan David and Angel Gomes on frees ) this January the squad and starting 11 should improve , whether or not our playing style does is another thing . .

I mostly agree, Geo, but a slightly different emphasis on Sullivan’s “hands off”. His mitts were all over the biggest, most import signing - Lopetegui. If Steidten is in charge of the direction of the footballing side, that was the #1 appointment and Sullivan took that out of his hands. I think we’ve also had glimpses of a Sullivan veto- I think that’s what happened with Duran. Otherwise, my biggest thought is that Steidten might succeed or fail, but if he fails, then we need to replace him with someone who can do the job, not go back to Sullivan calling up Will Salthouse. We know that doesn’t work.

The irony is Sullivan actually made 2 of the 3 best signings, with Wan-Bissaka and Summerville, with JLo signing Kilman as the other good signing. That alone sums up what a bad job Tim has done. Although let’s be honest, Sullivan taking control is nothing new. He has every single window he’s been at the club. I disagree Tobido signing wasn’t Tim’s fault, as there’s been questions over the player’s attitude even as early as his Barcelona days and it’s Tim’s responsibility to do his homework on the player. Like the Osman business when he spoke to the wrong agent he failed miserably.

i don’t know how Sullivan is delusional enough to be vindicated after one average transfer (Summerville) that he should be in charge of transfers. When has he ever made a successful signing? Almost every single one of our signings under him since he took over has been average, even Bilic said he’d already looked at Lanzini and Payet before he arrived. Only Declan, Payet and Arnautovic were sold for a decent profit, how can he possibly look back over his tenure and think he’s qualified to do that job, not to mention how many utter crap strikers he’s had a hand in signing. What may well be accurate is that Sullivan will require some agreement on (1) the positions that will be targeted; and (2) where are we going to get these players from. I think if there was a lesson to be learned from the last window is that bringing in experienced players from European leagues perhaps is a higher risk proposition than most people think. It hasn't been a secret that Sullivan has been leaning towards wanting to recurit more from the best of the Championship league. I'd personally prefer young players with pace, regarless of position.

The one aspect of all this you're not taking into consideration is Kretinsky. The man who brought Steidten into the club. I know he is hands off (far too hands off for my liking) but there is no way Kretinsky doesn't have a say on who spends his money. I still believe Kretinsky is waiting for a full takeover, but the timing isn't quite right yet with him taking full control of Royal Mail. Because of this, this is the only reason Steidten hasn't walked yet.

He then completely screwed the whole summer by embarrassing everyone (Tim, club and potential players ) with the Amorim debacle- whether he would have been right for us is now a moot point. He then overruled and completely undermined his technical director (TD) on the basis of a PowerPoint presentation and signed the Spanish version of Moyes in J-Lo. Either the TD is responsible for all things football or he is not a TD. By doing so, what has happened is Tim’s football ethos cannot be achieved. I agree with your previous comments that we then had a transfer window of very good players that were not suited to Spanish Moyes

The upshot of this rant is now with Dullivan taking over the transfers, Tim is further undermined and his position becoming untenable. He has never been given full control and therefore cannot be judged objectively. If he had the responsibility for managing the whole process and we either succeeded or failed, any decision on future strategy is clear. As it is, Tim could legitimately say he has never had the role as described on the tin. When he inevitably leaves this year, it will make replacing him a very difficult job. Who would want to work with Dullivan and Brady? Ashworth or any other decent TD would demand a far greater level or autonomy over the process. This in combination with the current incompetence ,dithering , lack of strategy over sacking J-Lo will mean another 18 months if chaos and probably another rebuild. Which decent players would choose us if they have options- only those associated with Man U I suspect! 😢

The blocking of Duran was another failure- holding out for a couple of million for a player who wanted to be our first choice was pitiful compared with the money we lose with each dropped position in the premier league. I suspect the waste of money on Fulkrug was probably a protest vote by Tim and to be frank, who could blame him. Having said that Spanish Moyes or his predecessor could negated the talents of prime Ronaldo (R9) so it’s probably doubtful Duran would scored anywhere near as many goals this season

Not really as Kretinsky was the one responsible for bringing in Steidten (according to Jack). That’s why am not totally convinced Sullivan will take charge of the transfer window as it’ll be undermining Kretinsky.

@@HammersChat Thanks for the info Geo. One other thing to be considered with Sullivans transfer meddling is players we didn't get (kind of like opportunity cost). Eze and McGuire are the first two that come to mind, who both would be handy to have right now, and there's more I'm sure.

Good players aren't necessarily the right signing. The players we had were good for Moyes's system, Kudos and Bowen are very effective inverted wingers, but I am yet to be convinced they are as effective in the inside forward positions. This has caused Loppy problems, just as Pacman's lack of form hasn't helped...but imo Todibo and Kilman are the same type of CB, either of them need a no nonsense Dawson to back them up. Rodders, embarrassing that he was signed imo, Fulkrug, might have worked, but since Loppy wanted Antonio at Wolves, F is hardly a like for like; and yes I get how difficult it is to sign such a player. AWB is a good player, but not the right player for Loppy's system, consequently Emerson is like AWB, in which case he doesn't suit Loppy's system, so we needed a mobile left back, Scarles? One day, but not today....Guillermo, why sign a third inverted right winger, how many do we need? And yes, I get the whole investing in the future, and there is the possibility Bowen or Kudos could leave, but was the position a priority for an improver? Could I do better? No, but I don't wear the scarf.

Good points geo . We all slag off sullivan but not all his fault. I think Phillips was definitely moyes. How on earth somebody gives moyes an obe ffs for what? Relegating sunderland or sacked 3 times joke obe. Hope your little one is doing well and your getting plenty sleep😅

I agree i wasn't bad either. But what makes it seem worse is that Floppy is at the helm. If any transfers will be made in this January windowv(which i don't cos who realistically wants ro join us?) then it's going to be the same outcome. Under Floppy progression isn't going to be made.
