Not next in line...sultan perak adalah yg seterusnya..mengikut sejarah..sultan idris punya giliran selepas sultan ahmad shah...tp disebabkan sultan idris menolak untuk mnjadi agong maka tempat baginda diganti oleh sultan iskandar... Kerana penetapan giliran agong telah diputuskan oleh seniority sultan2 sewaktu kemerdekaan. Sultan idris lahir pd tahun 1924, manakala sultan iskandar pd tahun 1932. Sbbtu sultan nazrin telah menjadi timbalan ydpa sbnyak 2 kali kerana sewaktu sultan Muhammad mnjdi agong timbalan spatutunya disandang oleh sultan ahmad. One of the very special things about Malaysia is we have open houses for major festivals and it's open to everyone across all races/religions even foreigners. For Hari Raya, there will be open house. For Chinese New Year and Deepavali, there will also be open houses. These are usually organized by the government, ministers, king/sultan or even political parties. It's our culture here, this is one thing I really like about my country.

Well the Sultanate of Johor has family and diplomatic ties with the Ottoman Sultan for almost 300 years for your information. About 170 years ago the ancestors of the current Sultan went to the Ottoman empire to visit the Ottoman Sultan, they became friend and the Ottoman Sultan send 2 of his Harem from the palace for the Johor Sultan and the Johor Sultan married one of them and the other women was married by a nobleman. Both of them are Circassian in origin if i'm not mistaken.

FYI, the Sultan of Johore is the elder brother of our current Queen of Malaysia, and he will be our next Yang Dipertuan Agong (YDPA, i.e. King of Malaysia) for 5 years, when the current YDPA (i.e. the Sultan of Pahang, and also Sultan of Johore's brother-in-law) completes his 5-years' terms early next year.

fyi, in Malaysia, ... for the whole month of Syawwal, ... there will be a lot of Hari Raya open houses ... hosted by state's sultans ( there are 9 sultans altogether), King of Malaysia, Prime Minister, government agencies, non-governmental entities, political parties, Authorities, families, ... and also business entities/companies (not only at company level, ... but also hosted by various departments and sections of the company,... they will usually take turns to host the occassions).

Johor Sultan’s open house at Istana Besar sees throng of 18,000 visitors as stated in the news. Visitors, including foreign tourists, were making a beeline up to the front gate as early as 7 am before they were allowed to go in at 9 am. of course i voted yes ramly burger for best eid hari raya food...its very rare to find it at open house.

Glad that you guys having fun there. But, the one you just met is Sultan of Johor. In Malaysia, there's two level of monarch system: 1) for reign over the whole country under the name Yang di-Pertuan Agong [YDPA] 2) for reign over each state under the calling of Sultan (for Kedah, Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, Perak, Selangor, Johor) or Yang di-Pertua (for Melaka, Negeri sembilan, Pulau Pinang, Sabah, Sarawak) or Raja (for Perlis) The next YDPA will be selected by the Council of Malay Kings and only selected among the Malay Kings. The government didn't change during the change of Malaysia's YDPA. YDPA will be given 5 years to rule untill the next selection begins when the time is ended. If the YDPA suddenly died, the next ruler will be chosen following each state system and if the next ruler cant be selected, the next state will take over. Kings and royalty have their own law specific for royals which is following the old law written by the long past kings and they have their own courts where the judge is the other kings from the Council of Malay Kings themselves. For the government, we can classify it into 3 layers: 1) national - include all area in Malaysia 2) state - only for each state 3) city/region - only for each city/region Example: KPM (Ministry of Education - National) → JPWPKL (Kuala Lumpur Department of Education - state) → PPD Keramat (District Education Office of Keramat zone - City/region) For the prime minister, our country will be managed by a prime minister for 4 years. After the time is ended, the selection for new prime minister will take place for around 2 to 3 weeks before selection ended and then the new prime minister will be elected. All this works will be managed by the election department during the period of PRU (Pilihan Raya Umum). For each state, they will have their own election for state government which is called PRN (Pilihan Raya Negeri). And that's all i can share about the government and monarch structure of Malaysia 😅

One thing to add is that Negeri Sembilan is called the Yang Dipertuan Besar or Yamtuan which is still a monarchy rule. Sabah, Sarawak, Pulau Pinang, and Melaka are the Yang dipertua Negeri or the Governer in english.
