I really didn't like hurrem during this time. She seemed so self centered and selfish. But later it became really clear that it was all about survival. She really did mature along the way. That's just for the series. In real life, she was the first "Haseki" in the Ottoman Empire. They called Mahideveran that in the first episode of the series, so that shows how much they strayed from historical accounts.

It was Hurrem, the first slave that was ever freed by the Sultan whom Sulaiman later married and solely for her he created the Haseki title making her only second in power to the Sultan in the entire dynasty.
