But because Suleiman was a male, and the one prince one mother rule, Hafsa wouldn't have any children after Suleiman. So Hatice was born before 1494. Mehmet was born about 1521. Bayezid about 1525. Between these dates, Hurrem was recorded having 5 children under 5 years. She was then living in Hafsa's harem, not allowed to go out as she pleases and Hatice cannot come to the harem. Ottoman's harem rules does not allow the sultan's married sisters to return to the harem. If the were divorced or widowed, they returned to other parts of Eski palace. So Hurrem cannot go out, Hatice cannot come in, where would they meet? Using the facts we have, and the process of deductions,this is the conclusion we came to in uni. I think Valide only liked Mahidevran because she can control her, unlike Hurrem who has a mind of her own. Also because she pinned her hope that Mustafa will sit on the throne so it was her way of earning Mahidevran's trust in return.
