Everyone grieves because of Prince Mustafa's death!
The letter which has been found on Mustafa casts Suleiman down. Cihangir's clamour rounds the whole camp and he wants an explanation for the promise he his father made. Rustem barely runs away from the janissaries's anger and gets expelled from Grand Vizier. The people and soldiers in Istanbul starts a revolt against Hurrem and Rustem. Mahidevran gets devastated because of his son's death. Meanwhile, Mihrunnisa fights for his son Mehmet's life after Mustafa. At first, Hurrem enjoys the victory of defeating her enemy, bu then she sheds tears for Mustafa. Suleiman fights with Mustafa's ghost.
Suleiman reads the letter found on Mustafa. Mustafa's words wounds Suleiman deeply. Suleiman thinks his son might be innocent and takes his anger out of Rustem. Rustem hardly saves his own life and gets expelled from grand vizier. Kara Ahmed Pasha gets charged as Grand Vizier.
At the age of 26, when he ascended to the throne, Sultan Suleiman aimed to build an empire more powerful than Alexander the Great and to render the Ottomans invincible. Throughout his 46-year reign, he became the greatest warrior and ruler of both East and West.
The young Suleiman received news of his succession to the throne during a hunting party in 1520. Unaware that he would be ruling a reign beyond his dreams, he left behind his wife son and took to the road with his close friend and companion Pargali Ibrahim to reach the Topkapi Palace in Istanbul. As they started their journey overland, an Ottoman ship set sail from Crimea in the Black Sea, bringing female slaves as gifts for the Ottoman palace… On this ship was Alexandra La Rossa, the daughter of a Ukrainian Orthodox minister, taken away from her family and sold to the Crimean palace. She had no idea that she would become Hurrem, wife of Sultan Suleiman and mother of princes, ruling the empire with him through bloodshed and intrigue.
As Sultan Suleiman conquered the world, his great passion for Hurrem would clash with his love for and trust in his closest friend and advisor, Grand Vizier Pargali Ibrahim, all set against the backdrop of the tension between Christian Europe and the Ottoman Empire in the 16th century.

Everyone's talking about Hürrem this and Mahidevran that, when the real evil is the dynasty itself. If the fratricide wasn't literally written into law, then these mothers would not spend years desperately fighting to keep their own children alive. It only stopped when Mehmed III, Selim's grandson, murdered nineteen of his brothers and had seven pregnant concubines drowned, an act which horrified the public so much that the law was repealed. Those women we love to hate were trapped by a vicious system which, while supposedly preventing civil war, destroyed the hearts and souls of anyone involved.

mahidevran poisoned hurrem while she was pregnant with mehmet. she also sent ilyas to gain the trust of mehmet and later had ilyas kill him... she killed another person's son mercilessly then cried when her own son got killed too. what goes around, comes around. she deserved all her downfalls. she deserved to cry bitterly the way hurrem cried for her son. mustafa was executed. while she killed mehmet just because he was set to become the heir to the throne. i actually felt so satisfied to see mahidevran finally get her punishments. wasn't mehmet also innocent when mahidevran killed him?

Both Hurrem and Mahidevran did what they could do save their kids. I have the biggest problems with Suleiman and the whole Ottoman tradition they had. It's not shown in the series, but from what I read in many sources in that particular period the "Fratricide" was still followed. Mahidevran knew very well that if any of of Hurrem's son would be the sultan Mustafa is going to die. Hurrem lived knowing that she can save only one son or no son at all. Same with her grandsons. She knew that only grandsons of one son will live. These women lived in constant fear... They aren't to blame. Suleiman was the only one with power to change it.

Among Mahidevran and Hurrem, none is innocent. Both of them are extremely jealous greedy and revengeful. But we should not condemn them, the ruthless custom of Ottoman succession made them like that. Just feel bad for all the mothers in this series. The whole fratricide thing seems so terrible and unneeded. If they didn't have this whole rivalry thing ever hanging over them their entire lives they could build solid ties and support whoever was chosen Sultan. The other brothers could have been the chosen brothers best advisors and generals. Sadly with the inbred rivalry thing one misstep and its game over,. All the jockeying or position just leads to a game of thrones saying "In the game of thrones, you win or you die. There is no middle ground." Which is so true in the fight to be the next sultan for the sons. Unfortunately, when you go by the show so many of Mustafa's action make it easy for the "slander" to ring true. It likely wasn't but his action make it more believable I guess to Suleiman. I also feel like maybe one of the only differences between Mahi and Hurrem is that Hurrem just learned how to play the long game a bit better. Just sad and tragic all around and something Suleiman could have changed.

Firstly, it is not proved that IN REALITY Hürrem was responsible for Mustafa's death. Secondly, if Mustafa succeed the throne, Hürrem's sons and grandsons would be killed. He wasn't a vampire or something like that and didn't rule from XVI until XIX century. Why do you blame him for a fate of all empires? Finally, in the past it was better to have many boys rather than one, because death rate of children was very high. For example, Mustafa wasn't the eldest son of Süleyman. His older brother, Ahmed, Murad and Mahmud, died as kids. Nurbanu was just lucky that nothing happened to her Murad.

Mahidevran played the victim card professionally, like no one else could. She never acknowledged any of her actions and sins while blaming Hurrem even if Mustafa farted. At least Hurrem was aware that she wasn’t innocent while Mahidevran painted herself as the wronged and victimized party, despite being the one that started each feud and rivalry with Hurrem. She beat and poisoned Hurrem and got abandoned by Suleiman. Who does she blame? Hurrem. She threatened Hurrem’s children using Mustafa’s position and told her she’ll watch them die when Suleiman was in a coma. Then she had a surprised pikachu face when Hurrem started targeting Mustafa. Her son repeatedly went behind Suleiman’s back, breaking his trust and got himself relocated to Amasya. Who does she blame? Hurrem. She killed Mehmet without a single regret or drop of guilt until the end of her life, smiling when she received the news. Then proceeded to play the victim and curse Hurrem for plotting Mustafa’s execution. Mahidevran brought everything upon herself, she’s the one that planted the seeds of the hostility and the war with Hurrem. She antagonized and enjoyed targeting Hurrem but whined and cried when Hurrem decided to bite back.

the series is loosely based in real history. Mahidevran never killed Mehmed. I've read that it is unclear wether Hurrem had any direct involvement in the execution of Mustafa but I am very sure Rrustem Pasha 100% had to do with it.

And rustem and Hurrem had a great influence on Suleiman after the death of Ibrahim pasha and they used to conceal the wrong actions of beyazid n Selim but report each n everything about Mustafa even his slightest mistake.

Yes, Mustafa was naive, naive not to stop the hero worship of his followers and naive because his head was turned by the adulation. He was so ambivalent - he loved his father, yet I bet if not stopped he would have led a rebellion to usurp the throne eventually. Even as a child, he had shown a rebellious streak, and was in danger when he ran off to the army. Many times he violated Suleiman's wishes and always apologized with excuses later. I think Hurrem was correct to warn Suleiman of the danger Mustafa presented. Mahidevran was also correct when she warned Mustafa himself many times.

While Hurrem always stood before her children like a mountain and protected them, Mahidevran sought protection from Mustafa and used him as a weapon against Hurrem and Suleiman. Therefore, placing him in danger and exposing himself as a target to her enemy. As a mother it was her duty to keep her son out of her matters and petty harem arguments, not bother and trouble him with the most minor and irrelevant things like “Mustafa help, Hurrem brought Nigar Kalfa to the harem.” Greatest irony is that whatever qualities Mustafa possessed, none of them were inherited or taught by Mahidevran but by Suleiman, Ibrahim and his mentors. All he received from Mahidevran was trauma and trouble. All the negative traits he had like stupidity, impudence and disobedience were passed from no one else but Mahidevran. This comment is ridiculous cause Mustafa’s actions like making secret pacts with bandits, marrying with a pasha’s daughters against his sultan’s will and without his consent, disobeying his orders is considered treasonous and rebellious. Yes, Hurrem taught her children to fight for their survival and those who listened to her managed to come out alive in the end, precisely Mihrimah and Selim. Mahidevran raised Mustafa as smart as a brick and he lost his head. It was a kill or be killed situation, so your little “moral high ground” and reprimands of Selim and Mihrimah are ridiculous. Mihrimah took part in Mustafa’s downfall to prevent his ascension and therefore death of her family. Funny enough, her reasons are traced back to Mahidevran. Since she was a child, Mihrimah watched her entire family’s lives hang on a thread and almost end during her father’s coma. She saw how close all of them came to death thanks to Mahidevran who planned Hurrem’s and her sons’ execution each time Suleiman was on a deathbed. She saw her brother Mehmet die before her eyes thanks to Mahidevran, you’re telling me she was supposed to leave her mother and other brothers in the hands of Mahidevran after all this? Selim had a life, a son and a family to think of as well. Not just a throne. Had Bayezid won, those ropes would have been around Selim’s and his child’s neck. Selim also fought for his life as did Bayezid, so he did what needed to be done.

Mustafa had this end coming a wayy long back.. from being jealous of mehmat and clearly showing his unpleasant way. Meeting sultan's enemy.. sailing in sea without permission when it was strictly prohibited for prince.. marrying minister's daughter(which was prohibited) and also hiding his marriage.. show off of support of janisseri soldiers.. arriving at palace with janisari soldiers.. clearly a hidden threat that he can dethrone suleyman any moment he want.. the one thing a prince is expected to do is being obedient and if he has more knowledge tgen share with sultan and gain more trust.. rather than taking decision on his own.. he was prince he was taught all since childhood. I'm not sure why ppl say little Mehmet was killed. I think Sulyman arranged for him to be sort of like witness protection. Like she said, if they were going to outright kill him, it would be done by now. We know Selim would kill the little guy to prevent him from ever vying for the throne.

They did execute him though, the carriage scene made it plain enough. Once the old guy said “it’s the sultan’s order” alongside the emotional music and his mother Mihrunisa’s screams and cries as she runs after the carriage as hers was stopped make it obvious enough that Mehmet was going to his death. They didn’t show his execution on screen but we have Mihrunusa’s suicide scene as another proof and confirmation of little Mehmet’s death.
