I think Evermore has better songs but due to the fact that Folklore came out first and it was such a departure from her country/pop music it gets more recognition. I do think that folklore is more cohesive, but personally I love Evermore and for me that's the better album.

To me Folklore's basic thing was nostalgia. Being " older and wiser" remembering past relationships that didn't work out , childhood freinds ,those who done you wrong, and how you handle those situations today.Evermore is living in the hear and now.Not looking back but forward and is a happier album.Its the better of the two.

taylor once said evermore is folklore's adventurous fun younger sister and i think that really explains it especially sonically. it contains the same deep lyricism as folklore but with a more experimental sound. i love both albums but evermore is my favorite, champagne problems and cowboy like me did something to me. anw, loved your reaction as always! you are definitely one of my fav reactors now. looking forward to future taylor reactions.

I’m surprised you didn’t catch the gatsby allusions in happiness! The narrator being above the trees, watching from above, the great divide, the green light. And Dorothea was from the perspective of the guy in it’s the damn season! My favorite line on this entire album “do you miss the rogue, who coaxed you into paradise and left you there?” Most hopeful lyric “and my waves meet your shore ever and evermore.”

The first 4 songs here are just toptier. I think Evermore has i don't wanna say better songs but has incredible songs... But Folklore is the better album because it's more of an- album. It's built like a cohesive album when Evermore feels more like a collection of songs. evermore is much more of a consistent listen to me overall. folklore has some pretty good cuts that rival a couple of my highlights off evermore, but it also had a few hard skips for me (potentially unpopular opinion, but i can't stand mirrorball). i feel like i can comfortably put on evermore on a long drive and not have the urge to hit "play next" at any point on the record.

The writing is beautiful , but it’s not as-tuneful-?-as folklore, to me. I found myself singing the folklore songs immediately, but I started skipping from song to song the second half of evermore to find something with a tune I could follow. 😬 (To be fair, I’ve only listened to the back half once. As an English teacher and lover of poetry, I *love* the writing on both, though. And it’s so interesting that you commented that you couldn’t see editing songs from evermore, because I had that realization about Taylor’s songs vs those of other songwriters in general, earlier this week. ❤️)
