Age might just be a reason to get out of the relationship. Now that I am older I really see that as a young person Taylor used to get emotionally attached to her partners to an unhealthy extent. I think that became the number one reason for most her breakups. The worst thing we as listeners can do is picking sides. Just in a *little* bit of fairness to Jake, it does seem to not be a regular pattern with him the way it has been with, most notably, Leo DiCaprio (legit, *none of Leo's girlfriends have been above the age of 25* :|| ) . With Jake, from what I can tell most of his girlfriends have been around his age or even a little older, but yeah, nevertheless it's still a really dubious dynamic even if it was just with Taylor and now his current girlfriend. I don't even think it's necessarily about the age gap *itself* , but rather when one party is basically just coming out of adolescence and the other is much further into adulthood. It makes it really easy for unhealthy power dynamics to take shape. I don't know that it's *always* unhealthy - I think there are probably some cases where it really is just genuine chemistry and it works out - but it leaves a lot of room for it to turn toxic, and especially in cases where older men in particular do *routinely* go for girls who are just barely out of their teenage years, that raises huge red flags. (Again, that's the part I'm willing to give Jake the benefit of the doubt on, since he's dated plenty of women his own age as well.)

I actually had a similar issue with Taylor around the same age. Like her, I also kept my virginity longer, looking for the right guy to fall in love with. When I met my college bf and fell in love, I was very nervous about having sex with him. I had a fear that I would sleep with him, lose my virginity to him, and then he would dump me. Mostly because all he was interested in was the challenge of getting a virgin. So I waited longer than she did, and I waited till he said he was in love. And then we did it. And it worked out.
