Lyrics:
Do you think about me cause I don’t have any doubt you must in this life
Even though you’re never there, I didn’t feel you disappear from sight, you did it well.
And now
You and I share the same life missing out
So the story goes
That we’re left, we’re stuck with a broken house.
I know that if I
I had the chance I’d let you know, that I understand and I’ve let it go.
I don’t need you by my side I think by now I’m doing fine myself, on my own
But I feel you time to time, like your sending outta sign to tell say
I’m not alone
Because
You and I share the same life missing out
So the story goes
That we’re left, we’re stuck with a broken house.
I know that if
The chance appears I’d have no fears, we both share pain, we feel the same.

"I never wanted to write this song, it just kind of poured out of me. I tried to fight it at first but there was no stopping it. I could tell I was writing about my dad, who I’ve never met. It’s a subject that I don’t really think about or care about. It’s never really bothered me to be honest. It never bothered me because my mum was so great, and I have such a great relationship with her. She was/is so strong as a single mother for my whole life that I never needed to think about my dad. This turned out to be a very personal song for me, and I hope you enjoy it.” - Deryck

I dig. Depending on who you are we can relate to this in certain ways or with songs similar like My Orphan Year by NOFX. No matter how tough we are there is something in us all.

I've never met my dad either and my mom struggled to raise my brother and I, it never bothers me that my dad was never around while I grew up and it doesn't bug me he hasn't met his grand daughter yet but I always cry when deryck writes about his dad. It's just so personal and to be able to relate it makes me feel genuinely sad that a man can just not care enough to be in his child's life

I know they will never read this, but you guys have been with me for a while. I am 12 years old, and I am a huge fan of Sum41. I first heard about them when I was 6 and my parents divorced. It was when my dad finished moving everything into the tiny apartment we rented, and a song from Underclass Hero came on. I had heard it before, so I asked my dad what the name of the song was and the band. Then he told me about Sum41 and how he had listened to them for a while, and even saw them in concert when they were opening for a concert he was going to. Since that moment, I have loved Sum41 so much. I have even met them now, and seen them 3 times. It was the best moment of my life... walking over to the band as Dave said “Metallica shirts in the middle!” because I was wearing a Metallica shirt. I just want to thank you guys for playing such a big role in my life.

'Cause I don't have any doubt you must In this life Even though you're never there I didn't feel you disappear from sight You did it well And now You and I share the same life missing out And so the story goes That we're left, we're stuck with a broken house I know that if I I had the chance I'd let you know That I understand, I've let you go I don't need you by my side I think by now I'm doing fine myself On my own And I feel you time to time Like you're sending out a sign, I can tell You're not alone Because You and I share the same life missing out And so the story goes That we're left, stuck with a broken house I know that if the The chance appears well I'd have no fears We both share pain We feel the same And now you and I share the same life missing out And so the story goes That we're left, we're stuck with a broken house I know that if I I had the chance I'd let you know That I understand, I've let you go You and I share the same life missing out So the story goes That we're left, we're stuck with a broken house I know that if the The chance appears, well I'd have no fears We both share pain We feel the same

@@packmanGB Sorry bro but take it into positive. We don't have the same age. That's a fact, but we listen the same music with the same passion. You don't have to get feel old. You know why ?Because music is timeless 🙂 And music can assemble diffrents generations. That's why i love so much this band because they create this feeling. (And also because they do fucking great punk !) And yeah, Chuck is really good but i prefer Screaming Bloody Murder 😜. Sorry for the bad English, i'm French and i try to learn so... Sorry ^^

I'm a 21 year old french guy who grew up without my dad. I never knew him, and I never cared about it until the last 6 months when I realized what I'd missed. I don't know why it started affecting me, but I think it's because my family really begins to have some struggles right now. And I think I am the only one in this family who can help them. I'm pretty sure that if my dad were there, it wouldn't be so difficult to me. Anyway, it makes me accept my responsabilities and makes me wanna believe that I could be the man my family always wished I could become. It makes me wanna succeed in my life. I wish I could make a movie or some music, but I still don't have anything to start this projects, except my own ambition and dreams. My family, they can't help me. I got no money, and no experiences. I'm all alone. I think it's one of the reasons why Sum 41 is my favorite band. I can really feel connected with Deryck, especially in the songs "Walking Disaster" and "Dear Father". And now "Never there". When I listen them, it's like I'm the same as Deryck was before. And if he have succeeded, it makes me feel like I still can try my best to do the same, even in my darkest hours. He shows me a way to be a better person than myself. I wish I could be like him, succeed in what inspires me and pursuit my dreams until I die.

I also remembered when i was little and thinking growing up without a dad was smh normal and complete, but then challenges came; like how many people would ask me everyday about where my dad is, and i couldn't tell them anything cause i never knew where he is and was. My mum gave me and my sister a great childhood childhood while protecting us from and trying to survive in the face of my waste of space violent alcoholic dad. My mum is bloody awesome and this song reminds me of her, I'm going to send this song to her on Fathers day Jun 16th x

Very beautiful song, and this is one of Sum 41's best, and I can relate to it, because my father left me when I was 10 months old, and my mother (who passed away on March 14TH 2014), had to look after me, just like in this Sum 41 video. Also, I hope and pray everyone has a great day/night, great weekend, and stay safe. And, I have been a fan of Sum 41 since 2001's "Fat Lip" song.

Having been raised by a single mom who suffered through so much so that i could have he best life possible this hits the bull's eye. The lyric alone is so strong and brought so many memories and feelings i've had goosbumps throughout the song. The video is also spot on, and is definitely one of the best rock clips i have seen in a long time. thank you Sum 41 so much for staying true to yourself, for writing songs about things you've been through and topics which matter to you. NO excuse me, i'm gonna call my mom

June 2020 my dad still beats himself up because he always worked and he said he didn’t get to see me grow up.And I was always with my mother and nan.But my dad’s disabled now and we have talked about this. And I don’t feel any anger or feel like I missed out.He worked hard to provide for his family.
