I think what you say at 0:38 is wrong. If an organism that has two sets of chromosomes is diploid, then humans are polyploid because we have 23 sets of chromosomes. But we are diploid because despite having 23 sets of chromosomes, each set has two copies of chromosomes.

I think Shomu would do a wonderful job explaining, I just wanted to insert my own general comment on it. Polyploidy, also referred to as WGD (Whole Genome Duplications) occurs in both plant and animals, but seen most frequently in plants. As a plant biology graduate student, one of the areas within my research investigates polyploidization within a particular plant genus. One of the hot research topics discussed regarding evolutionary significance of polyploidy is the correlation between polyploidy and plant diversification, especially amongst one of the most successful plant lineages, the angiosperms (flowering plants). There is a ton of phylogenetic data out there which shows WGD events amongst many angiosperms prior to the divergence of plant families, but it's difficult to pinpoint when ancestral WGDs have taken place. My research will be looking more closely at the potential correlation between WGD and asexual reproduction methods within my plant's genus.

So in Allopolyploides we ALWAYS end up with gamte that is STERILE and has uneven number of chromosome or it depends on the species themselves if they are diploid or haploid? becuase if the each of the different species were diploid then they will produce normal gamete? and what about the (autopolyploides)! would you please explain it to me!
