This is just from what I’ve seen from highlights of some of Nagal’s matches. Of course, I could be wrong in my assessment since I don’t watch his matches in full, but here’s what I gather. Nagal seems to be a pure baseline player relying on power to get most of his points. He had some nice FH winners and forced Arnaldi to make errors with his other FH’s. But he needs to add another element to his game to stay competitive. I rarely see him go to the net, drop shot, or slice the ball. Opponents can easily exploit that. His serve is also not that strong. Finally, stamina is another area of improvement. I think he has worked on it a bit since the AO, but he’s still labouring a bit in the third set. Also could be a factor in why his recent losses all end in 3 sets. If he can improve in these areas, I think he can make it deeper into tournaments. But nothing to scoff at with what he’s done in Monte Carlo so far. Cobolli, Diaz Acosta, and Arnaldi are all talented players ranked within the top 65 and beating them is no small feat.

Surprising commentaries. The first one assuming that all handshakes have to be warm. Well, that is the ideal handshake, but the common one after a match between two people who don't know each other at all is not that warm. Second commentary assumes that if the handshake didn't look that warm then there is a sore loser. That is far from true, having been the two players very correct and not having anything to reproach to the other one. Come on guys don't be so suspicious about everything

Wow man , imagine coming from A country like India where there is no tennis platform and finance to back up and still winning the first round of atp 1000 , hats off to you Sumit wish our country supported tennis like the way they do for cricket

I am assuming cricket is the biggest sport in India but, out of curiosity, where does tennis fall in popularity? What other sports would be above it? American here, so I’m not familiar with the country that much other than a few sports figures like Nagal, Leander Paes & Sania Mirza.

@@vickiego1Tennis is one of the more popular sports in India, but in general, India does not fund sports very much. They don’t believe they have a good chance at the national level and are always told to focus on school and academics. Cricket, badminton, field hockey, table tennis, and tennis are probably the biggest sports in India, but they tend to focus on less “athletic” sports which is why tennis doesn’t get much funding. Not to knock cricket or any of the other sports on that list, but they take more skill and less athleticism. To crack the top 100 in tennis, you need to be a freakishly good athlete. Look at how deep Nagal had to dig to get this win, and how he has to play again tomorrow probably.

@@vickiego1 unfortunately tennis is no where I feel badminton is gaining in popularity but again people here consumed in cricket which the British left and Indians took it whole new level Leaving rest of other sports to dustbin

Congrats to Nagal against a VERY BIASED BORDERLINE RACIST CROWD. Very little clapping for him when he wins a point compared to the crowd's animalistic shouts and yells when his opponent wins a point.

Racist?....that's horseshit...if your in Monte Carlo and Italian or French then you will get a very one sided crowd...but I've been in MC when Monfils was playing and they supported him very aggressively because he is French and black.Ive also seen Serena play at the US Open and the crowd were just about homicidal...it was like feeding time at the zoo.

What a consistent player! Even though you can clearly see that Arnaldi packs venom on his forehand, Nagal kept fighting till the end! Defeating red hot Italian talent on the home soil is a tough ask and not done by any Indian player (at least in single's draw)
