You do get an actual reward though. The dog leaves behind "dog residue" in your inventory. When you use it, every empty slot in your inventory will fill up with more dog residue, or a healing item called "dog salad". The residues can also be sold for a small amount of money at the Tem Shop. So with a little patience, the dog residue allows you to get infinite healing items and infinite money.

@@EmperorZ19 you really don't need too many healing items to get through the game, and the only time you really need to grind money is for the temmie armor, but the best way to get that is to just die over and over because every time you die it gets cheaper down to a certain point

I think Undertale was game first for Rushia. It didn’t matter about the underground and the small details taking place, because through Rushia’s playthrough it was just a game. This is what makes Undertale a great game though, it appeals to everyone who’s willing to play through to the end. Wether it’s a game first where your finishing with the highest stats you can, or your paying attention to the story and immersing yourself into the game. And having the game pay attention to what you’ve done after resetting either drags you in deeper with the monster friends you’ve made along the way, or you continue playing it as a game where your goal is escaping the Underground regardless of what stands in your way.
