The Lötschberg route during winter: • 🚆 Cab ride on the Löts...
We've been there in winter, now it's time for some beautiful summer footage of this famous route! We start in Brig on an early summer morning and enjoy the beautiful sunrise scenery as the rays of sunlight slowly light up the mountain peaks. Meanwhile, our two locomotives work hard to get the heavy load onto the Lötschberg. If you're a regular viewer, you'll recognise parts or even the whole route, but this video is again proof that all cab rides are unique. Every day brings small changes in weather, temperature and nature and this day is no different. As always, sit back, relax and let the tracks show you the way from south to north!
The ride through the tunnel is uncut, if you want to skip it, feel free to change to 48:40 to exit again.

Sunrise over the Alps - fabulous. While base tunnels may be the need of the day, these old routes are a lifeline for the old romantics and photographers. May these routes survive the depredations of modern life. Merci beaucoup.

My last visit to Switzerland was in 1992 as Ill Health precludes visits abroad now. I was saddened to see so many small stations closed and that the sidings at Thun were almost empty!

Wie eine Schweizerischer Uhr, unglaublich wie is lauft und lauft und lauft. Wunderbaren Aufnahmen Danke schön!Basel Muttenz ist viel gröszer als alle Rangierbahnhöfe in die Niedrelände kombiniert. Die Startpunkt am Maasvlakte ist so klein im vergleich mit Muttenz.

3 hours 32 minutes is a very long video and it has not yet been possible for me to watch it in one session. As Andrei Tupolev writes, the climb from Brig to Lalden is spectacular. It is one of my favourite journeys and in the fine weather, there are some beautiful shots of the mountains. Thank you!

Thank you! This is the best way to get a good nights sleep! I just play this with my headphones on and dream of the trip! I also watched the whole thing once, Very impressive compared to our. Canadian train system with 1910 technology, and yes we are still with rails spiked to wooden ties with spikes coming out all the time! Yes, derailments are common!

Wie sehr die zwei Loks am kämpfen sind. Nach Ausserberg hört man es sehr gut wie die Loks an das Limit kommen.

I finally stuck with it, despite falling asleep on numerous occasions. Hypnotic, especially with the rattle of the loco. I’d done the winter, southbound version, but this popped up in my ‘recommended’ listing. Well worth the time spent peering through your cab window. Thank you for these ‘trips of a lifetime’, especially during COVID-19 lockdown.

Immer wieder geil, über den Lötschberg mitgenommen zu werden!! Ich baue gerade meine Südrampen-Anlage mit den 5 Abschnitten vom Mahnkinngraben bis zum Ijolli-Tal, und bei Fragen bzgl. der Oberleitung oder "Wo Holz-, wo Betonschwelen?" ist das Video eine so wertvolle Planungshilfe ... Vielen Dank also nochmal (falls ich das bisher vergessen haben sollte 😇...) und liebe Grüße Jochen

Is that filmed from the Re 6/6? They make a very distinctive sound. It's amazing to see how steeply it climbs; how you can look down into the valley way below even less than five minutes after departing Brig.

Yet another awesome run and, as ever, there are questions: are the white lights in the Lötschberg Tunnel for infrastructure repairs or are those rescue zones? Also you seem to perform several sawtooth braking cycles on the way down - what proportion of friction and rheostatic were you using? Keep up the excellent posts \m/

It's a normal tunnel light for the workers in the tunnel. The brakes are *regenerative* and are always applied to the maximum allowed current and stay there for the whole trip down, everything above that breaking power is solved with the air brakes.

Der Einspurbetrieb im Tunnel und die daraus resultierenden Kreuzungen waren der Grund für die tiefere Geschwindigkeit.

I cannot reconstruct how many wagons there were, however the length and weight (both much more important for us than just the number of cars) of freight trains is always shown at the beginning of my videos.

Tolles Video! Woher wussten Sie, dass Sie oben mit verminderter Geschwindigkeit fahren müssen. Gemäss Streckentabelle wären doch überall 75 km/h erlaubt gewesen, und den Signalen konnte auch keine Verminderung der Geschwindigkeit entnommen werden.

Hallo an die “Piloten”, hatte der gleiche Lokführer die ganze Strecke im Video zu fahren oder war da ein Lokführer-Wechsel dazwischen? 2. Als Bespiel “Gelterkinden“… wenn da ein Vorsignal zu ist, reicht das mit 1440t zum abbremsen bis zum Rot?? Aber hab die Fahrt genossen in 2 Etappen ab Brig! Vielen Dank!!🤝👍

Das war alles eine einzige Fahrt mit einem Lokführer. Die Abstände zwischen Vor- und Hauptsignalen und die Streckengeschwindigkeit sind so berechnet, dass es zum Anhalten reicht. Ein schwerer Güterzug mit tiefer Bremsereihe darf darum nicht so schnell fahren wie ein Personenzug mit meist hoher Bremsreihe.

Why did you drive on the mountain line if you as well could have through the Löschtberg Base Tunnel? And could you explain what a SIM Train is?

Nice ride. Just one curious question: I have seen many light signals, but no speed limit boards. Are these used on swiss railways?

No, the allowed speeds are only visible on charts (or tablets nowadays) that we carry with us.

4 Meter high Container ... Ort anything else that high ... these trains are to high for parts of the tracks - so they have Tod change sometimes from left to right and back

Das Bremsen bei 0:53, 0:55 und 0:58 ist recht heftig. Da hilft die EDB im Geringsten nicht. Tja, die 28 Promille Gefälle ist schon ne Achterbahn. :-) Der Betrieb muss ziemlich teuer sein bei all dem Verschleis. Merkwürdigerweise kann ich im Gleis (auch in den steilsten Abschnitten) keine Sandreste vom Sanden beobachten.

Sehr schönes Video auf einer landschaftlich schönen Strecke und auch das Leuchten der Gipfel in der Morgensonne wunderbar. Interessant auch die Überholung auf freier Strecke bei 1:06:20 durch den Regionalzug. Warum fuhr der Zug über den Berg - abgesehen davon, dass das naürlich die schönere Strecke ist - und nicht durch den Basistunnel?

Dort oben hat es auch Stationen mit Leuten, die werden stündlich bedient.

@@zugfotografiethurgau7741 ich meinte eigentlich , warum "unseren" Zug über den Berg geleitet wurde. Sind ja doch über 400 zusätzliche Höhenmeter über die 1440t gebracht werden müssen. Ist der Basistunnel so gut ausgelastet?

Die Kapazität im Basistunnel reicht schlichtweg nicht. Er ist 34 km lang und nur ca auf 1/3 Doppelspurig ausgebaut, damit sind die verfügbaren Trasse beschränkt und Güterzüge müssen auch mal oben drüber.

Danke für das schöne Video und für die guten Infoanzeigen. Wieder ein schönes Video von der herrlichen Lötchbergstrecke. Waren die Zugloks an der Leistungsgrenze - oder was war der Grund für das stellenweise langsame Tempo auf der Südrampe vor Goppenstein?

Der Einspurbetrieb im Tunnel und die daraus resultierenden Kreuzungen waren der Grund für die tiefere Geschwindigkeit.
