So how far do you hike with you Bouv? We have one and the most we have gone is 3miles. Would like to push it out to 10. He is 7-8yrs old.

@@christianhamer634 I had Lucci the Bouvier and my husband had Midas the Doberman before we were together. He’d always wanted a Dobe because they look tough but are giant love sponges, and I liked Bouvs because of their independent intelligence, tendency to be natural family guardians, and hair coat. They both also have a fascinating history as war dogs. There are pictures of Bouvs wearing gas masks and pulling carts in WW1. The two breeds also turned out to go really well together because Dobes are natural speed racehorses and Bouviers love to chase!

Does your Bouvier deal with the heat fine in the summer? I'm in the same area and I'm considering a Bouvier to add to my family and have been wondering how well they do on hikes and such in the warm months!

No, honestly not at all! He got overheated on this hike even packing cold water, stopping frequently in shade, and crossing multiples streams for him to cool off in. He gets too hot really easily even right now in spring temperatures at home with his kiddie pool filled up. Just have to plan ways to keep them comfortable, and they’ll always be up for cold weather activities! Shorter haircuts help too 😊

It's not a deal breaker (I don't do too great in heat either to be honest lol) but if I get a Bouvier I'll plan to stick to cooler/overcast days for hiking. Not like there's a lack of those in the PNW lol

@@zephari While a well-groomed, hairy Bouvier looks sensational, you can always consider a shorter utility clip for the summer months. Also if you plan on hiking with your Bouv in pine forests, watch out for that pesky pine resin sticking to their coats.
